I think it demonstrates that what we're focused on is only the most sensitive technology that could pose a threat to our security. We're not focused on cutting off trade, or for that matter containing or holding back China.” 2 hours ago

“If anyone dares to split Taiwan from China, the Chinese army will definitely not hesitate to start a war no matter the cost. The PLA [People's Liberation Army] would have no choice but to fight … and crush any attempt of Taiwan independence, safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The current situation across the Taiwan Strait faces a new round of tension. The root cause is that the Taiwan authorities have repeatedly tried to seek 'Taiwan independence' by soliciting US support, while some in the US intend to contain China with the Taiwan question. The US and Taiwan have colluded with each other, and certain individual deliberately draws parallel between Taiwan and Ukraine despite they are two fundamentally different issues. Their aim is to mislead the public and profit from that. It is such move of playing with fire that would change the status quo across the Taiwan Strait. The Taiwan question is a legacy of the Chinese civil war. China must and will be reunified. We will strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with utmost sincerity and efforts. That being said, we reserve the option of taking all necessary measures in response to the interference of foreign forces and the secessionist activities of a handful of 'Taiwan independence' separatists. The so-called 'Taiwan Relations Act' unilaterally concocted by the US side runs counter to the principles of the three China-US joint communiqués and basic norms governing international relations. China has been firmly opposed to it since the very beginning. The US has no right to put its domestic law above international law, still less use it as a pretext to meddle in China's internal affairs. On the Taiwan question, the US should abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, not the so-called 'Taiwan Relations Act'. The US should abide by the one-China principle and stipulations in the three China-US joint communiqués, cut off official interactions and military ties with Taiwan, stop arms sales to Taiwan and take concrete actions to fulfill its commitment of not supporting 'Taiwan independence'.”

“Let me emphasise this. The Taiwan issue is the biggest tinderbox between China and the United States. If the Taiwanese authorities, emboldened by the United States, keep going down the road for independence, it most likely [will] involve China and the United States, the two big countries, in a military conflict.”

“We are willing to strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification. But if 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces continue to provoke and coerce, or even cross any red line, we will have to take decisive measures. The pursuit of independence will only throw Taiwan into a deep chasm and bring about profound catastrophe.”

“The current sanction is restricted to Far Eastern Group, and its magnitude does not seem overly costly. But what is important is its signaling effect both to foreign and Taiwanese businesses, as well as to the Chinese public, that the Chinese government shall not tolerate any bit of Taiwanese independence movement or support.”

“Those offering platform to 'Taiwan independence' forces will find themselves in an embarrassing place. Those playing with fire with 'Taiwan independence' forces will end up getting burned. We have repeatedly stated our position. Democracy is a common value of all humanity, not the patent of a few countries. What the US has done shows exactly that it is only using democracy as a cover and tool to advance its geostrategic goals, suppress other countries, divide the world, and serve its selfish agenda of maintaining hegemony.”

“There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The one-China principle is a universally recognized norm of international relations and universal consensus of the international community. Upholding the one-China principle is the overriding trend with strong popular support. We want to admonish the Taiwan authorities that Taiwan independence leads to a dead end, dollar diplomacy is rejected by all, and all attempts to reverse the historical trend by soliciting foreign support are bound to fail.”

“The one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués constitute the political foundation of China-US relations. The so-called 'Taiwan Relations Act' and 'Six Assurances' unilaterally concocted by the US gravely violate international law, basic norms governing international relations and the one-China principle. China has made clear its firm rejection to them from the very beginning. For a while, the US has been keeping up erroneous words and acts on the Taiwan question. The Chinese side has made resolute and necessary reactions every step of the way. Should the US side choose to continue playing the ill-advised 'Taiwan card', it would inevitably pose seismic risks to China-US relations, seriously undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and gravely harm the interests of the US itself. We urge the US to abide by its commitment, the one-China principle, the stipulations of the three China-US joint communiqués and UNGA Resolution 2758, stop making irresponsible erroneous remarks, stop assisting Taiwan in expanding the so-called 'international space', avoid sending wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' forces, and safeguard the political foundation for China-US relations with concrete actions.”

“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affairs that allow no foreign interference. On issues that bear on China's sovereignty, territorial integrity and other core interests, no one shall expect China to make any compromise or trade-offs. No one should underestimate the resolve, the will and the ability of the Chinese people to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Do not stand on the opposite side of the 1.4 billion people. We urge the US to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and stipulations in the three China-US joint communiques, be prudent with its words and actions on the Taiwan question, and avoid sending wrong signals to the 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces, lest it should seriously damage China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

“Taiwan's political future can never be determined by its society. This is because Taiwan is part of China's national sovereignty, and in a country with traditions of great unity going back thousands of years, the answer to the Taiwan question is established and it is even clearer, especially when China's national strength is flourishing. On the global scale, even if the US and its allies want to use the Taiwan question to impede the Chinese mainland, they will have to verbally pledge their support for the 'one-China' policy. And no major power will dare openly recognize Taiwan as an independent sovereign state.”

“Tsai's speech advocates Taiwan secessionism and incite confrontation between the two sides of Taiwan Straits, distorting facts and holding the Taiwan public hostage in the name of consensus and solidarity, while colluding with foreign forces to provoke the mainland and seek secessionism. Our crackdown against Taiwan secessionists is targeting the DPP and secessionist forces, rather than Taiwan compatriots. The DPP cannot fool the Taiwan public or the international community by creating bad blood and obscuring the facts.”

“Taiwan independence separatism is the biggest obstacle to achieving the reunification of the motherland, and the most serious hidden danger to national rejuvenation. Peaceful reunification best meets the overall interests of the Taiwanese people, but China will protect its sovereignty and unity. No one should underestimate the Chinese people's staunch determination, firm will, and strong ability to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The historical task of the complete reunification of the motherland must be fulfilled, and will definitely be fulfilled.”

“The Taiwan question is the most important and sensitive issue at the core of China-US relations. The one-China principle is the political foundation of bilateral relations. In the China-US Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, the US unequivocally that 'the people of the United States will maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan'. In his phone call with President Xi Jinping, President Biden said that the US has no intention to change the one-China policy. China has lodged solemn representation with the US side in terms of the above-mentioned issue reported by the media. The US should abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, honor its commitments with concrete actions, stop all forms of official exchanges with Taiwan, and stop elevating substantive relations with Taiwan. This should include refrain from renaming the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US as 'Taiwan Representative Office', and stop sending wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces. The US side should handle the Taiwan question in a prudent manner, lest it should seriously undermine China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

“The PLA [People's Liberation Army] Eastern Theater Command on Tuesday dispatched warships, anti-submarine warfare aircraft and fighter jets in surrounding maritime and aerial areas near the southwest and southeast directions of the island of Taiwan for military exercises, including joint live-fire assaults, and also for testing the troops' integrated joint operation capabilities. The US and the Taiwan authorities have been frequently colluding and making provocations, sending wrong signals and severely violating China's sovereignty and seriously damaging peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits. They have become the biggest security risk in the region. The PLA Eastern Theater Command will continue to boost its war preparedness and related training, and is determined to crush and capable of crushing any 'Taiwan independence' secessionist activities and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“National reunification of the island of Taiwan and China is a historical process. It will not be stopped by anyone or any force. We will never let Taiwan go independent. We are prepared to do everything we can for a peaceful reunification. That said, we don't pledge to give up other options. No option is excluded. The Taiwan question bears on China's core interests.
