  • Benjamin Netanyahu
Benjamin Netanyahu “But while Israel has shown willingness, Hamas remains entrenched in its extreme positions, first among them the demand to remove all our forces from the Gaza Strip, end the war, and leave Hamas in power. Israel cannot accept that.” 13 hours ago
  • Bernard Smith
Bernard Smith “I know my colleagues who were working out of occupied East Jerusalem have now stopped working out of there, and both Arabic and English channels have stopped broadcasting from there. The reason that those of us here in Ramallah and Gaza are still operating is because this is the occupied Palestinian territories. The Cabinet decision applies in Israel and Israel's domestic territory. To close Al Jazeera's operations in this part of the occupied West Bank, a military order from the governor would be required. That hasn't come yet. The network might be looking at some legal appeal, but it's a 45-day closure for now. It could be extended again, but it gives the Israeli authorities the right to seize Al Jazeera's broadcasting equipment and cut the channel from cable and satellite broadcasters. We know that's already happened in the last couple of hours in Israel; any operators that have been broadcasting Al Jazeera English or Arabic now have a sign on their screens saying they're no longer allowed to transmit and receive Al Jazeera.” 13 hours ago
  • Omar Shakir
Omar Shakir “Their [Al Jazeera] offices have been bombed in Gaza. Their staff have been beaten in the West Bank. They've been killed in the West Bank and Gaza. Rather than trying to silence reporting on its atrocities in Gaza, Israel should stop committing them.” 13 hours ago

“Tajikistan will suffer from poverty and a sharp increase in unemployment. The total amount of Tajikistan's external debt exceeds $3bn. If the Russian economy drops, the crisis will break out in our country as well. We will not be able to pay off these debts. The only way that we can minimise the consequences of the crisis in Tajikistan is the adoption of the ruble system in Tajikistan by joining the Eurasian Customs Union and trading in roubles.”

“The situation has calmed down and people are moving about as normal but the environment is still unknown in terms of what may happen. Many food shops had been burned down in the riots. It will not be surprising if we have to experience food shortages and a hike in prices. Unemployment will certainly increase in the coming weeks as people will certainly be out of jobs now and will be finding it difficult.”

“Ortega [Daniel Ortega] has no instrument to reverse the political crisis, the international isolation and the social expressions of the crisis, such as unemployment, underemployment and poverty. Ortega only has repression and repression is not enough to indefinitely subdue the rejection of the population.”

“Until the end of July, there will be no changes. The scheme will continue [until October] but with greater flexibility to support the transition back to work. Businesses have benefitted from the support the government has put in place, they have been able to retain their employees through using this scheme.”

““These are truly mind-blowing numbers we haven’t seen anything like this since the Great Depression. The employment situation report confirms what we already know about the economy. Regardless of the official number, we know that one in five workers filed for unemployment insurance. This is a staggering,”
