Theresa Fallon “Many people would like to see China play a constructive role, but I think now that we're in the third year of the war, this idea is wearing a bit thin.” 1 hour ago

Mahjoob Zweiri “What we have witnessed in the past few hours is that they talk about an agreement on the first stage. It could be understood that Hamas wants to release itself from the pressure globally, including the United States. So, they are giving concessions on the first stage, which leads to 40 days of ceasefire and exchange of captives. I think 33 old and sick captives. And then moving on to other stages. But we are seeing that we are going back to the main conditions, which means we are still talking about the main principles [complete ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza] that Hamas talked about. As the time of some sort of agreement on the first stage came, the Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to say actually, there is no agreement: We will go to Rafah regardless of any agreement. It reflects the divisions within the Israelis and crisis within the Israeli politics. On the other hand, Hamas has been more cautious. They do not want to show real progress made but they also do not want to say things have not changed. I think it's obvious some change has happened otherwise we would not expect [CIA chief] William Burns to be in the region.” 1 hour ago

“China does not gamble on the United States to lose, interfere in its internal affairs, or interfere in the U.S. election, and is willing to be a partner and friend with the United States. If the United States continues to interfere in China's internal affairs and harm China's interests on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tibet, and the South China Sea, how can we maintain the bottom line of bilateral relations no matter how many 'guardrails' are set up?”

“The severe repression that China has rolled out in Xinjiang, in Tibet, in Hong Kong has all taken place since 2015 the year that the Olympic delegates awarded Beijing the Games. The I.O.C. would be within its right to say that these issues have to be addressed. They haven't.”

“We anticipate that as someone familiar with the Tibetan issue, Zeya [Uzra Zeya] will work proactively at promoting dialogue between the Dalai Lama's envoys and the Chinese leadership, as well as at advocating for US interests in Tibet, and advancing the cause of Tibetan Americans and Tibetans around the globe.”

“As the atrocities continue in the Uyghur Region, Tibet and Hong Kong, it is unthinkable that our state leaders will condone these Games. Our Government ministers must state clearly that they will not attend the Beijing Olympics. The US, UK and Australia have made the first move. There can be no excuse for Europe not to follow.”

“From the growing of cotton to the production of solar energy, widespread forced labour abuses in the Uyghur Region have tainted supply chains worldwide. Meanwhile, the Chinese government exploits trade dependency as a vulnerability - threatening punitive economic measures against those who refuse to acquiesce. Governments must now work urgently to enforce the upholding of human rights across international supply chains, including those set out by the International Labour Organization. Firms operating in the Uyghur Region, Tibet and elsewhere in China must be held accountable for efforts to remove such abuses from their supply chains.”

“At this high-level segment, the U.K., EU, Germany, USA, Canada, and some other countries abused this forum of the Council to make groundless charges against China, to interfere in internal affairs of our country. We firmly oppose and categorically reject these attempts. Ignoring reality, the above-mentioned countries fabricate and spread lies about Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong. They should resolve their own human rights problems such as deep-rooted racial discrimination, gaps between rich and poor, social inequity, injustice, police brutality.”

“We hope the United States will respect China's core interests, national dignity, and rights to development. We urge the United States to stop smearing the Communist Party of China and China's political system, stop conniving at or even supporting the erroneous words and actions of separatist forces seeking 'Taiwan independence,' and stop undermining China's sovereignty and security through internal affairs concerning Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet.”

“Xizang's [Tibet Autonomous Region] affairs are China's internal affairs that allow no foreign interference. The US appointment of so-called 'special coordinator for Tibetan issues' is a political manipulation to interfere in China's domestic affairs and undermine Xizang's development and stability. China firmly opposes it and has never recognized it. We have lodged solemn representations with the US side. The so-called 'Tibetan government-in-exile' is a separatist political organization with the agenda of pursuing 'Tibetan independence'. It is completely in violation of China's Constitution and laws, and is not recognized by any country. Lobsang Sangay, as head of the organization, is utterly an anti-China separatist. China firmly opposes Lobsang Sangay conducting anti-China separatist activities in whatever capacity, name or country, and we firmly oppose engagement of whatever form between him and officials of any country. Destro's meeting with him seriously breached the US commitment and policy stance of not supporting so-called 'Tibetan independence' and not recognizing the so-called 'Tibetan government-in-exile', which sent a deeply erroneous signal to the 'Tibetan independence' forces.”
