  • Rina Shah
Rina Shah “Protests in US universities are a display of democracy in action, a welcome sight in an election year marked by concerns of voter apathy chiefly due to Israel's war on Gaza. So when I see a movement like this of students taking peaceful, non-violent action and expressing their concern about the US government backing of Israel, of where our tax money is going, I think that's extremely healthy. These students are out there concerned about America's role in backing Benjamin Netanyahu. On the one hand, we are supplying weapons and funds to do what he wants to do in Gaza, while on the other we are sending humanitarian aid to Gaza. This is the hypocrisy these students are concerned about.” 2 hours ago
  • Thomas Friedman
Thomas Friedman “But revenge is not a strategy. It is pure insanity that Israel is now more than six months into this war and the Israeli military leadership - and virtually the entire political class - has allowed Netanyahu to continue to pursue a 'total victory' there, including probably soon plunging deep into Rafah, without any exit plan or Arab partner lined up to step in once the war ends. If Israel ends up with an indefinite occupation of both Gaza and the West Bank, it would be a toxic military, economic and moral overstretch that would delight Israel's most dangerous foe, Iran, and repel all its allies in the West and the Arab world.” 3 hours ago
  • Volodymyr Zelenskiy
Volodymyr Zelenskiy “Of course, I'm grateful to all of our partners who have helped us with air defence: each air defence system and each air defence missile is literally saving lives. It's important that everything works out as quickly as possible: every new agreement with our partners to strengthen our air defence, every initiative from Ukraine's friends to help us, particularly with finding and supplying Patriot [anti-aircraft missile systems]. Ukraine needs at least seven [Patriot] systems. Our partners have these Patriots. Russian terrorists can see that unfortunately our partners aren't as determined to protect Europe from terror as they are to do so in the Middle East. But [our partners] can give us the air defence systems that we need. We mustn't waste time: we need to signal determination.” 7 hours ago
  • Antony Blinken
Antony Blinken “I saw that Huawei just put out a new laptop that it boasted was AI capable, that uses an Intel chip. I think it demonstrates that what we're focused on is only the most sensitive technology that could pose a threat to our security. We're not focused on cutting off trade, or for that matter containing or holding back China.” 11 hours ago

“I sincerely hope the majority of Taiwan compatriots recognise the extreme harm of the DPP's 'Taiwan independence' line and the extreme danger of Lai Ching-te's triggering of cross-Strait confrontation and conflict, and to make the right choice at the crossroads of cross-Strait relations. If elected, Lai would further promote separatist activities towards the evil path of independence.”

“If anyone dares to split Taiwan from China, the Chinese army will definitely not hesitate to start a war no matter the cost. The PLA [People's Liberation Army] would have no choice but to fight … and crush any attempt of Taiwan independence, safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“We urge relevant US politicians to earnestly abide by the one-China principle, and immediately stop official exchanges with Taiwan in any form and refrain from sending any wrong signals to the 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces. China will continue to take forceful measures to resolutely safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“Those offering platform to 'Taiwan independence' forces will find themselves in an embarrassing place. Those playing with fire with 'Taiwan independence' forces will end up getting burned. We have repeatedly stated our position. Democracy is a common value of all humanity, not the patent of a few countries. What the US has done shows exactly that it is only using democracy as a cover and tool to advance its geostrategic goals, suppress other countries, divide the world, and serve its selfish agenda of maintaining hegemony.”

“Businesses and financial sponsors associated with supporters of Taiwan independence will be penalized according to law. Backers of independence undermine cross-strait relations and risk instability in the region.”

“The one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués constitute the political foundation of China-US relations. The so-called 'Taiwan Relations Act' and 'Six Assurances' unilaterally concocted by the US gravely violate international law, basic norms governing international relations and the one-China principle. China has made clear its firm rejection to them from the very beginning. For a while, the US has been keeping up erroneous words and acts on the Taiwan question. The Chinese side has made resolute and necessary reactions every step of the way. Should the US side choose to continue playing the ill-advised 'Taiwan card', it would inevitably pose seismic risks to China-US relations, seriously undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and gravely harm the interests of the US itself. We urge the US to abide by its commitment, the one-China principle, the stipulations of the three China-US joint communiqués and UNGA Resolution 2758, stop making irresponsible erroneous remarks, stop assisting Taiwan in expanding the so-called 'international space', avoid sending wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' forces, and safeguard the political foundation for China-US relations with concrete actions.”

“Taiwan independence separatism is the biggest obstacle to achieving the reunification of the motherland, and the most serious hidden danger to national rejuvenation. Peaceful reunification best meets the overall interests of the Taiwanese people, but China will protect its sovereignty and unity. No one should underestimate the Chinese people's staunch determination, firm will, and strong ability to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The historical task of the complete reunification of the motherland must be fulfilled, and will definitely be fulfilled.”

“The Taiwan question is the most important and sensitive issue at the core of China-US relations. The one-China principle is the political foundation of bilateral relations. In the China-US Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, the US unequivocally that 'the people of the United States will maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan'. In his phone call with President Xi Jinping, President Biden said that the US has no intention to change the one-China policy. China has lodged solemn representation with the US side in terms of the above-mentioned issue reported by the media. The US should abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, honor its commitments with concrete actions, stop all forms of official exchanges with Taiwan, and stop elevating substantive relations with Taiwan. This should include refrain from renaming the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US as 'Taiwan Representative Office', and stop sending wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces. The US side should handle the Taiwan question in a prudent manner, lest it should seriously undermine China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

“Japan's militarists once used geographical proximity as the main excuse to wage wars of aggression. It is a very dangerous development that some in Japan are still touting this logic in the 21st century. We need to stay on high alert about this. On the Taiwan question, the Japanese side bears historical responsibilities to the Chinese people for its past crimes and should especially be prudent with its words and actions. Japan should stop interfering in China's domestic affairs, avoid undermining China's sovereignty in any form and refrain from sending wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' forces in any form. I want to stress once again that the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory and the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair that brooks no foreign interference. No one should underestimate the strong resolution, determination and capability of the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
