Theresa Fallon “Many people would like to see China play a constructive role, but I think now that we're in the third year of the war, this idea is wearing a bit thin.” 6 hours ago

Mahjoob Zweiri “What we have witnessed in the past few hours is that they talk about an agreement on the first stage. It could be understood that Hamas wants to release itself from the pressure globally, including the United States. So, they are giving concessions on the first stage, which leads to 40 days of ceasefire and exchange of captives. I think 33 old and sick captives. And then moving on to other stages. But we are seeing that we are going back to the main conditions, which means we are still talking about the main principles [complete ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza] that Hamas talked about. As the time of some sort of agreement on the first stage came, the Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to say actually, there is no agreement: We will go to Rafah regardless of any agreement. It reflects the divisions within the Israelis and crisis within the Israeli politics. On the other hand, Hamas has been more cautious. They do not want to show real progress made but they also do not want to say things have not changed. I think it's obvious some change has happened otherwise we would not expect [CIA chief] William Burns to be in the region.” 6 hours ago

“He's [Aleksandr Dvornikov] been called 'butcher' since the days of the Second Chechen War, then in Aleppo in Syria. Nothing stops him. He sticks to the old Soviet and then Russian approach - if there are forces, they have to be concentrated and used to destroy everything. We have seen the results in Aleppo.”

“You have a revisionist neighbour who's invaded every adjacent state. It's sat in Cyprus for 48 years. It's illegally invaded Syria and Iraq. I don't think Turkey's record suggests we can drop all concern that it can do the same [in the Aegean] if it thinks it can get away with it.”

“Upgrading economic cooperation will be a key priority of the trip. Russia will also use the trip to facilitate a return to the Iran nuclear deal. Cooperation on regional security issues will also feature, as Moscow highlights its Gulf security plan and planned trilateral drills with China and Iran. On Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen, Russia and Iran are likely to hold consultations, and we should watch in particular for their responses to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the Houthi strike on the UAE.”

“Your Majesty [King Salman bin Abdul Aziz], the terrorist is who exported the Daesh ideology to the world. The terrorist is the one who sent thousands of Saudis to conduct suicide operations in Iraq and Syria, and it's you. We didn't attack Saudi Arabia. They were involved in the greater conspiracy that was destroying the region.”

“It is incomprehensible to me that a child like Ali, kind and with an incredibly gentle smile, had spent his entire life fleeing. And it is impossible to accept that a dedicated father had been left with no other choice but to embark with his children on a dangerous boat journey for a chance at their education. This is the shameful reality unfolding at European borders, where irresponsible and reckless migration policies force people like Moustafa and his family to risk their lives.”

“The removal of this al-Qaeda senior leader will disrupt the terrorist organisation's ability to further plot and carry out global attacks threatening US citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians. Al-Qaeda continues to present a threat to America and our allies. Al-Qaeda uses Syria as a safe haven to rebuild, coordinate with external affiliates, and plan external operations.”

“They've got themselves in this terrible position where they're upholding a Syria foreign policy that's based on 10 years of bad assumptions and wrong analysis, which is that Assad [Bashar al-Assad] was going to fall. And how do you back away from that without losing face? You can't. You have to lose face at some level, and you have to hurt your allies that you've built up over 10 years.”

“If Israel did indeed kill Saleh [Midhat Saleh] through an unprecedented sniper attack, it sent a powerful message to Iran and Syria about their activities near the Israeli border. It says that we have many ways and many techniques. We're watching you.”

“Turkey would always remember the good faith and the contribution Merkel made towards maintaining ties with Turkey. From prevention of irregular migration from Syria, to dispatching humanitarian aid to northern Syria, on many topics Merkel did not abstain from taking the initiative and taking responsibility.”

“What we have not done and what we do not intend to do is to express any support for efforts to normalise relations or rehabilitate Mr Assad [Bashar al-Assad] or lifted a single sanction on Syria or changed our position to oppose the reconstruction of Syria, until there is irreversible progress towards a political solution, which we believe is necessary and vital.”

“Muslims should take responsibility for their own peace and well-being, as well as for the security and future of all humanity, and raise their voices against the injustices they witness. Muslims struggling with conflicts, migration, poverty, and disease in a wide geography from Syria to Afghanistan, on the other hand, have to struggle with rising Islamophobia and cultural racism, especially in Western society. I expect you not to allow anyone to come between us and divide you over ethnic, sectarian, or cultural differences.”

“What's happening in Afghanistan is raising alarm bells everywhere. The U.S.'s credibility as an ally has been in question for a while. We see Russia fighting all the way to protect the Assad regime [in Syria], and now the Americans are pulling out and leaving a big chaos in Afghanistan.”

“The United States took necessary, appropriate, and deliberate action designed to limit the risk of escalation - but also to send a clear and unambiguous deterrent message.
