  • Ravina Shamdasani
Ravina Shamdasani “According to international law, Israel must ensure civilians have access to medical care, adequate food, safe water and sanitation. Failure to meet these obligations may amount to forced displacement, which is a war crime. There are strong indications that this [Rafah offensive] is being conducted in violation of international humanitarian law.” 10 hours ago
  • António Guterres
António Guterres “I appeal to all those with influence over Israel to do everything in their power to help avert even more tragedy. The international community has a shared responsibility to promote a humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages and a massive surge in life-saving aid. It is time for the parties to seize the opportunity and secure a deal for the sake of their own people.” 10 hours ago
  • Annalena Baerbock
Annalena Baerbock “I warn against a major offensive on Rafah. A million people cannot simply vanish into thin air. They need protection. They need more humanitarian aid urgently … the Rafah and Kerem Shalom [Karem Abu Salem] border crossings must immediately be reopened.” 10 hours ago

“We were well prepared. We chose the most convenient border areas for the incursion and entered … Belgorod and Kursk oblasts of Russia. Now there are combat clashes, and developments are unfolding as we speak. Literally every half hour or hour, some new geographical names [of places reached] appear. We won't name them, as we are still in full control of the initiative. We are Russian citizens. We are going home to liberate our homeland from Putin's dictatorship.”

“The dictatorial measures will not be sufficient to retain power … and at some point, the Russian government would need to start buying the loyalty of Russian citizens or subjugated Ukrainians, Belarusians with a more Keynesian redistributionist economic policy. Politics will also have to be reorganised to pave the way for the establishment of a party with a mass membership, able to rally the population around Putin's figure and imperialist ideology. It would not look exactly like fascism but the regime would be more mobilisationist.”

“Russia is being threatened with arrests of assets of Russian citizens and companies abroad - just like that, without any sanctions, in a carpet fashion, out of spite. This must be responded to in a quite symmetric manner. With arrest of assets of foreigners and foreign companies in Russia based on country principle. And maybe, with nationalization of property of people registered in unfriendly jurisdictions. Like the EU, EU member states and a number of singing-along states of the Anglo-Saxon world that will take part in this. Thankfully, we have vast experience and we have a law on this issue. A harsh one. So the most interesting stuff only begins.”

“This figure is clearly overestimated or includes Russian citizens who live abroad or own real estate there. Political emigration makes up a microscopic share. This is mainly consumer emigration, what we used to call 'sausage' emigration.”
