  • Itamar Yaar
Itamar Yaar “The American move to pause big bomb transfers is largely symbolic. But it's a sign of trouble and could become more of a problem if it is sustained. It's not some kind of American embargo on American munitions support, but I think it's some kind of diplomatic message to Mr Netanyahu that he needs to take into consideration American interests more than he has over the last few months. It's kind of a signal, a 'be careful'.” 16 hours ago
  • Vitalii Barabash
Vitalii Barabash “Around 700 people stayed in Avdiivka. The situation is not easy; regular checks are ongoing. The excitement of the majority of those who remained and waited for the Russians has long faded. Even those who didn't care admit now that it was far better under Ukraine's control. Because there is no evidence of democracy or that it was 'liberators' that came to them.” 18 hours ago
  • Alan Boswell
Alan Boswell “The Sudanese have basically been forgotten, obviously there's the war in Gaza which has taken a lot of attention. Frankly it would take very high-level political focus on trying to pressure those who are arming the various sides and have the actual belligerence themselves to stop this. Obviously, the United Nations tools are not very functional.” 20 hours ago
  • Benjamin Netanyahu
Benjamin Netanyahu “No amount of pressure … will stop Israel from defending itself and achieving its war objectives. Eighty years ago in the Holocaust, the Jewish people were totally defenceless against those who sought our destruction. No nation came to our aid. I pledge here today from Jerusalem on this Holocaust Remembrance Day: If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone. But we know we are not alone because countless decent people around the world support our just cause.” 23 hours ago
  • Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin “We know what the exorbitance of such ambitions leads to. Russia will do everything to prevent a global clash. But at the same time, we will not allow anyone to threaten us. Our strategic forces are always in a state of combat readiness.” 23 hours ago

“I fear that we will soon hear also that the NLD [National League for Democracy] party could be disbanded. This is an attempt to promote legitimacy against lack of international action taken. I have to make clear that the U.N. does not recognize governments, so it's up to the member states.”

“Both the National League for Democracy and the Tatmadaw maintain friendly relations with China. The current development in Myanmar is absolutely not what China wants to see. We hope that all parties in Myanmar handle differences properly under the framework of the constitution and laws, and maintain political and social stability.”

“It is clear that people are very angry. The question is what is the strategy for any organised protest. and my guess would be that the NLD [National League for Democracy itself and potential protest leaders are probably hoping that they can lull the military into a fall sense of security after a matter of couple weeks or so and then begin the protests. Coming out straight away would probably be a foolish act, but there is no doubt that this pot-banging … indicates the very high degree of public anger.”

“It could be anything from a fax machine to a walkie-talkie. It’s a notorious law because it was used under the former military regime all the time to imprison political prisoners. There was a lot of criticism for the NLD [National League for Democracy] for not changing that law when they came to power because many of their members have been imprisoned under it.”

“The US has not invested much in Myanmar, but has supported some aid programs during the governing of the National League for Democracy (NLD). The 'democratic transition' in Myanmar is a legacy of the Obama administration, and Biden does not want to lose it. The Myanmar today is different from the Myanmar of 10 or even five years ago. After all, the Myanmar people's awareness of democracy, political participation and political maturity is different. So it's not particularly likely that the military will extend the state of emergency after one year.”

“I received internal reports about our state counsellor and president being taken by the military. As far as I was informed, Shan State's Planning and Finance Minister U Soe Nyunt Lwin, Kayah state's NLD [National League for Democracy] chairman Thaung Htay and some NLD representatives of the Ayeyarwady region's parliament have been detained. Two members of Central Executive Committee of the party were taken and I am also waiting to be detained as I was informed by our members that my turn will come shortly.”
