Theresa Fallon “Many people would like to see China play a constructive role, but I think now that we're in the third year of the war, this idea is wearing a bit thin.” 15 hours ago

Mahjoob Zweiri “What we have witnessed in the past few hours is that they talk about an agreement on the first stage. It could be understood that Hamas wants to release itself from the pressure globally, including the United States. So, they are giving concessions on the first stage, which leads to 40 days of ceasefire and exchange of captives. I think 33 old and sick captives. And then moving on to other stages. But we are seeing that we are going back to the main conditions, which means we are still talking about the main principles [complete ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza] that Hamas talked about. As the time of some sort of agreement on the first stage came, the Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to say actually, there is no agreement: We will go to Rafah regardless of any agreement. It reflects the divisions within the Israelis and crisis within the Israeli politics. On the other hand, Hamas has been more cautious. They do not want to show real progress made but they also do not want to say things have not changed. I think it's obvious some change has happened otherwise we would not expect [CIA chief] William Burns to be in the region.” 15 hours ago

“I made it very clear, we had a lengthy dinner there in Paris, about our very significant concerns about the capabilities of conventional submarines to deal with the new strategic environment we're faced with. I made it very clear that this was a matter that Australia would need to make a decision on in our national interest.”

“We strongly, strongly welcome European countries playing an important role in the Indo-Pacific. We look forward to continued close cooperation with NATO, with the EU and others in this endeavor. France, in particular, is a vital partner on this and on so many other things - stretching back a long, long time, but also stretching forward into the future.”

“The Australians have taken this decision that they want to make a change. We didn't go fishing for that but as a close ally, when the Australians approached us, of course, we would consider it. I understand France's frustration about it.”

“It is very important for us that France supports the process of integration of North Macedonia in the EU, with clearly set standards and without wasting time. Ahead of us is the European Council Summit in June, which is a real opportunity for a step forward and a solution that will remove the blockade on our European path.”

“France and the United States depended on Deby's [Idriss Deby] leadership and his military might to advance their regional security objectives. The domestic and security tumult in Chad may draw some troops away from the missions in Mali and the Liptako-Gourma tri-border region, depriving France of its most effective partner. It will have less impact on the Lake Chad Basin where Chadian troops already have pulled troops from far-flung forward operating bases in Nigeria to reconcentrate its defences on the border.”

“If the US and other Western countries decide to inflict greater and more substantial damage to Hong Kong or even China, such as totally destroying Hong Kong's status as an international financial center, they should be prepared to abandon a huge number of interests related to the city as such sanctions on trade or finance would just be like a nuclear attack triggering mutual assured destruction economically and financially. The US and UK are different from other Western countries and major EU members like France and Germany on this matter, because China's latest move did create huge losses for the US and UK in Hong Kong. Behind the pretext of 'democracy', the real reason why Washington and London are extremely anxious at this moment is that "their long-lasting plan and huge amount of input in Hong Kong - to breed pro-West proxies or opposition parties to gain political power through the problematic election system - is totally doomed. Other G7 members or major EU powers don't share their pain, so not every Western country desires to escalate their confrontation with China on Hong Kong, so the 'long fight' with the West on Hong Kong is, in fact, mainly with the US and the UK.”

“The Trump administration chose what it called the 'maximum pressure' campaign on Iran. The result was that this strategy only increased the risk and the threat. This has to stop because Iran and - I say this clearly - is in the process of acquiring nuclear [weapons] capacity. Tough discussions will be needed over ballistic proliferation and Iran's destabilization of its neighbors in the region.”

“I think we are at one minute to midnight as far as a conflict with Turkey is concerned. France sees that if Turkey wins influence over Greece and Cyprus, then Turkey will become the major power in the East Mediterranean, pushing Egypt and Israel to the sidelines and forcing them into an alliance. If it succeeds, the East Mediterranean will become a Turkish lake. Israel’s new relationship with Arab nations… permits the creation of a bridge of countries starting in France, passing through Greece and Cyprus, going to Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and reaching India. A barrier against the dangerous network Turkey is trying to create with Pakistan and Turkic nations.”

“This is not just a downfall of French art, this is the politics of a government that is supporting this wrong act. This is a political figure who explicitly supports this. They say a person has been killed. Well, express condolences and kindness for him. Why do you explicitly support that vile caricature?”

“[Muslims] have to listen carefully to what Macron said in his speech. He doesn’t want to isolate Muslims in the West, and he is totally right. The French state has the right to search for ways to achieve this in parallel with combating extremism and societal closure.”

“We strongly condemn the attack perpetrated today inside the Notre-Dame de Nice Church in Nice, France. We convey our condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives in the attack and wish speedy recovery to the wounded. There can be no reason to excuse the killing of a human being and justify violence. It is obvious that those who carried out such a brutal attack in a sacred place of worship have never benefited from religious, human and moral values. As a country which fights against different sorts of terror and loses its citizens as a result of terrorism, we emphasize our solidarity with the French people, the residents of Nice in particular, against terrorism and violence.”

“Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past. But by and large, the Muslims have not applied the ‘eye for an eye’ law. Muslims don’t. The French shouldn’t. Since you have blamed all Muslims and the Muslims’ religion for what was done by one angry person, the Muslims have a right to punish the French. The French should teach their people to respect other people’s feelings.”

“We stand in solidarity with our French friends, especially in the fight against Islamic extremists. The attacks of @RTErdogan against @EmmanuelMacron are a new low and completely unacceptable. We do not accept to mix things up here. There are millions of upright citizens of Muslim faith in Germany. One must defend itself against violent Islamists and murderers. Those who equate this with racism and Islamophobia act irresponsibly.”

“What is the problem of this person called Macron with Muslims and Islam? Macron needs treatment on a mental level. What else can be said to a head of state who does not understand freedom of belief and who behaves in this way to millions of people living in his country who are members of a different faith? First of all, have mental checks.”
