  • Itamar Yaar
Itamar Yaar “The American move to pause big bomb transfers is largely symbolic. But it's a sign of trouble and could become more of a problem if it is sustained. It's not some kind of American embargo on American munitions support, but I think it's some kind of diplomatic message to Mr Netanyahu that he needs to take into consideration American interests more than he has over the last few months. It's kind of a signal, a 'be careful'.” 14 hours ago
  • Vitalii Barabash
Vitalii Barabash “Around 700 people stayed in Avdiivka. The situation is not easy; regular checks are ongoing. The excitement of the majority of those who remained and waited for the Russians has long faded. Even those who didn't care admit now that it was far better under Ukraine's control. Because there is no evidence of democracy or that it was 'liberators' that came to them.” 16 hours ago
  • Alan Boswell
Alan Boswell “The Sudanese have basically been forgotten, obviously there's the war in Gaza which has taken a lot of attention. Frankly it would take very high-level political focus on trying to pressure those who are arming the various sides and have the actual belligerence themselves to stop this. Obviously, the United Nations tools are not very functional.” 18 hours ago
  • Benjamin Netanyahu
Benjamin Netanyahu “No amount of pressure … will stop Israel from defending itself and achieving its war objectives. Eighty years ago in the Holocaust, the Jewish people were totally defenceless against those who sought our destruction. No nation came to our aid. I pledge here today from Jerusalem on this Holocaust Remembrance Day: If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone. But we know we are not alone because countless decent people around the world support our just cause.” 21 hours ago
  • Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin “We know what the exorbitance of such ambitions leads to. Russia will do everything to prevent a global clash. But at the same time, we will not allow anyone to threaten us. Our strategic forces are always in a state of combat readiness.” 21 hours ago

“The second reason for our meeting today is that the Commission has just paid to Ukraine a first tranche of EUR 4.5 billion from the Facility. It is the very first time that there is a disbursement now. This payment, in the form of a bridge financing, is crucial to help you maintain the functioning of the state in this very difficult moment. In April, once Ukraine fulfils the conditions we agreed upon, we will make a second disbursement of the bridge financing of EUR 1.5 billion. So today is a good day for Ukraine. Funds are flowing to meet urgent needs. And the country has laid a solid foundation for the EU's support, right up until the end of 2027.”

“The expectation that there could be a relatively quick agreement with the European Commission (on EU funds) is questionable now after in his speech last night Viktor Orban took a repeated swipe at Brussels. We can hardly expect that his government, with two-thirds majority now, will be as ready for a compromise as it would have been with a simple majority win in elections.”

“Lithuania's president will ask European leaders for help in a dispute with China over diplomatic relations with Taiwan. We think this will lead to a discussion how the EU and particularly European Commission could help Lithuania in this matter. We want that the conflict to be clear to our European partners, and that the economic actions would be as wide as possible.”

“We now estimate that the certification can only be completed around April next year at the earliest, with ample potential for an extension through to August 2022, given the likelihood of an even more stringent evaluation at the next review stage of the European Commission.”

“EU states must not stand by idly when the rule of law continues to be dismantled by the Polish government. Neither can the European Commission. Our money can't finance governments which mock and negate our jointly agreed rules. By declaring that the EU treaties are not compatible with Polish law, the illegitimate constitutional tribunal in Poland has put the country on the path to Polexit.”

“Fit for 55 is harmful to forests and insufficient to tackle climate change. We are in desperate need of honest policies that include all our emissions in the statistics. [The European Commission had chosen] to sacrifice forests rather than admit that current EU bioenergy policy is making the climate crisis worse. Enough with the burning. We cannot just switch from burning one climate disastrous fuel to another.”

“We prepared for the first big wedding with all the decorations. The European Commission said that we are ready for the integration process … First wedding, the bride did not come; the second wedding, the bride did not come. We are not preparing any third wedding. We are hostages of EU nationalisms. The path of Western Balkan integration is dependent more and more on EU nationalisms. When I talk about EU nationalisms, I am talking about the nationalisms of powerful countries holding hostage leaders who are not yet nationalists. In the Balkans, when we copy, we go further than the original. The Bulgarian attitude is a result of what Bulgaria has learned within the EU from the great ones. Bulgaria has learned that it can use local politics to block others.”

“We now in a sense have suspended … political outreach activities from the European Commission side. It's clear in the current situation with the EU sanctions in place against China and Chinese counter sanctions in place, including against members of European parliament [that] the environment is not conducive for ratification of the agreement.”

“I am the first woman to be president of the European Commission. I am the president of the European Commission, and this is how I expected to be treated when visiting Turkey two weeks ago. Like a commission president, but I was not. I felt hurt, and I felt alone, as a woman, and as a European. Because it is not about seating arrangements or protocol. This goes to the core of who we are.”

“AstraZeneca has fully complied with the Advance Purchase Agreement with the European Commission. We are making progress addressing the technical challenges and our output is improving, but the production cycle of a vaccine is very long which means these improvements take time to result in increased finished vaccine doses.”

Now we are also focusing on recovery, committing to long-term and sustainable support to the region through the European Union Economic and Investment Plan recently approved by the European Commission.”

“European values? What European values?? The blood of these people, so horrifically mistreated on the Croatian border, is on the hands of [the European Commission]. When are people going to be held to account for the sickening crimes against migrants happening daily in Croatia?”

“Let us look around here in this very hemicycle, the diversity of our society is not represented, and I will be the first to admit that things are not better in the College of Commissioners or among the European Commission staff. And this is why I say we need to talk about racism, and we need to act.”
