IPSEs IN THE LAST 24H

Theresa Fallon “Many people would like to see China play a constructive role, but I think now that we're in the third year of the war, this idea is wearing a bit thin.” 5 hours ago

Mahjoob Zweiri “What we have witnessed in the past few hours is that they talk about an agreement on the first stage. It could be understood that Hamas wants to release itself from the pressure globally, including the United States. So, they are giving concessions on the first stage, which leads to 40 days of ceasefire and exchange of captives. I think 33 old and sick captives. And then moving on to other stages. But we are seeing that we are going back to the main conditions, which means we are still talking about the main principles [complete ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza] that Hamas talked about. As the time of some sort of agreement on the first stage came, the Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to say actually, there is no agreement: We will go to Rafah regardless of any agreement. It reflects the divisions within the Israelis and crisis within the Israeli politics. On the other hand, Hamas has been more cautious. They do not want to show real progress made but they also do not want to say things have not changed. I think it's obvious some change has happened otherwise we would not expect [CIA chief] William Burns to be in the region.” 5 hours ago

“We feel the same way about the problems everyone has raised and voiced. A lot of our work has not been enough, and there's still a big gap from everyone's expectations. We will do our best to improve. The epidemic prevention and control is now at the most critical moment, and we cannot tolerate the slightest slack.”

“When you say that a disease [has] transitioned from epidemic to endemic, there are no hard and fast rules to determine that. Once COVID-19 loses that ability through enough immunity … I think the world is going to get to endemicity, but it's going to be on different timelines depending upon where you are at. I think that from the very first day in the COVID-19 pandemic, it was always going to be the case that this became an endemic respiratory virus. The main priority was to get more tools, like vaccines, antivirals, and monoclonal antibodies, that would help to reduce the strain on hospitals and health systems. Omicron has accelerated this process … we are basically at the cusp of endemicity and it may be the case that after Omicron surge washes over the countries of the world, we will be clearly in the endemic phase.”

“In the last 14 days, out of 3,697 people who were tested positive, as many as 85.72 per cent were not vaccinated. Of the 221 hospitalized people, 87 per cent were not vaccinated. From June 1 to August 17, 254 people died and 80 per cent of the people who passed away were not vaccinated. We are witnessing an epidemic of the unvaccinated. The epidemic in Croatia undoubtedly affects the unvaccinated the most. The toxic combination of a relatively high proportion of unvaccinated and non-compliance measures can lead to an increase in the number of patients, new outbreaks and hospitalizations. The epidemic is exhausting. None of us are an island. How long we stay in orange or green depends on each of us.”
