Louise Wateridge “Everywhere you look now in west Rafah this morning, families are packing up. Streets are significantly emptier. UNRWA estimates 150,000 people have now fled Rafah. New areas have been issued evacuation orders towards central Rafah in south Gaza and Jabalia in North Gaza.” 37 minutes ago
  • Donald Tusk
Donald Tusk “The Polish-Belarusian border is a unique place due to the pressure of illegal immigration. In fact, we are dealing with a progressing hybrid war. I want there to be no doubts here - a country with increasingly aggressive intentions towards Poland, such as Belarus, is co-organising this practice on the Polish border. It is not only Poland's internal border, but also the EU border. Therefore, I have no doubt that all of Europe will have to ... invest in its security by investing in Poland's eastern border and in the security of our border.” 49 minutes ago
  • Jakub Palowski
Jakub Palowski “A direct attack on Kharkiv is quite unlikely because it is a big city. Ukraine currently has a mobilised army and, in the absence of a surprise, the defence of such a city would be quite effective. It is hard to tell what Russia wants to achieve in the Kharkiv region. It might be the opening of a new full-scale front, similar to the Donbas region; actions that would aim at capturing a limited area and accumulating Ukrainian troops in one place, so that they cannot be used elsewhere; or creating conditions for further offensives.” 54 minutes ago
  • Yevgen Shapoval
Yevgen Shapoval “Some people are panicking, but not like the occupiers would like them to. Yes, explosions are heard close up and the situation is not easy. It is difficult especially psychologically. We must be consistent and believe in Ukraine's defence forces. So even if they try to do something, to attack, they will get the response they deserve. Yes - some local tactical movements and even some larger-scale offensive operations are possible. But as for Kharkiv, I don't believe it can be captured.” 58 minutes ago

Georgios Petropoulos “We simply have no tents, we have no blankets, no bedding, none of the items that you would expect a population on the move to be able to get from the humanitarian system.” 1 hour ago
  • Tal Beeri
Tal Beeri “So far, the IDF has not struck Hezbollah's significant systems. Even if the government pursues a diplomatic agreement, it will only postpone the war that will break out whenever Hezbollah chooses and on its terms-by my estimation, no later than the end of 2026. No political or diplomatic agreement will prevent Hezbollah from continuing to operate. Any such agreement only means buying time, with Israel being the only side likely to adhere to it, while Hezbollah waits for an opportune moment to initiate a full-scale confrontation.” 16 hours ago

Benjamin Netanyahu “If we have to stand alone, we will stand alone. If we need to, we will fight with our fingernails. But we have much more than fingernails.” 23 hours ago
  • Sam Rose
Sam Rose “People are petrified. People have been fearing this for a long, long time and it is now upon us. There is constant bombardment. There is smoke on the horizon. There are people on the move. Israel is subjecting Gaza to a medieval siege in a scorched earth war. No aid has come into Gaza now since Sunday. No aid, no fuel, no supplies, nothing. And we really are now down to our last reserves. We have a few more days of flour that we can provide. But everything else will start to shut down very soon without fuel, without water. So the situation is really desperate.” 23 hours ago
  • Shirley Yu
Shirley Yu “Both trade and Russia are non-negotiable for China. Macron could not achieve anything [on those fronts]. Macron shares one vision in common with Xi, which is that the US hegemony - including the quest for Europe's allegiance to the US's foreign policy - must yield to a multipolar global order by accommodating the rising powers' interests and concerns. Macron's recent visits to India and Brazil also prove that France wants to stay at the forefront of that global shift.” 23 hours ago

“After accepting problematic pork and dumping radioactive water, what do we get from that? No one from all the relevant authorities dares to speak up. Is Taiwan really less important, or does the DPP [Democratic Progressive Party] not pay attention to the health and safety of people? … Does an alliance with the US and Japan mean we have to put up with the US or Japan doing whatever they want?”

“The 'Taiwan card' is a good card for the US so it will fully take advantage of the island of Taiwan to serve its own strategic interests. The US will improve its relations with Taiwan as much as possible, but it will never break the ceiling to regard the island as a 'country'. The US' new guidelines are just a move to provoke the Chinese mainland and further enchant the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to make it feel good. The new guidelines cannot be seen as a "turning point" in US relations with Taiwan. Only when the US completely tears its face with the Chinese mainland and transforms its relationship with the island of Taiwan from an unofficial relationship to an official one, can it be called a structural change - now it is just an act of harassment.”

“The reason behind the tensions and large-scale PLA [People's Liberation Army] exercises around Taiwan is the collusion of Taiwan secessionists and the US, which has been challenging the one-China principle. It is the US and DPP [Democratic Progressive Party] authorities that have been changing the cross-Straits status quo, and the PLA had to respond. In extreme circumstance when Taiwan secessionists act to trigger the secessionism button, a large-scale confrontation or even war could break out, and such situation is to be forcefully imposed on the people on both sides of the Straits by the US and Taiwan secessionists. That is why the PLA must effectively deter them and maintain peace.”

“The accident [train crash in the eastern part of Taiwan] showed that the local administrative departments have problems in safety management, but above all, it reflects some deeper and long-existing problems on the island. The Democratic Progressive Party authority has been neglecting people's livelihood, but mainly focuses on politics. It regards politics as its central work. It should spend less energy on politics.”

“China's position on the Taiwan question is consistent and clear. There is but one China in the world, and the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. China is determined in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and opposing 'Taiwan independence' and interference by external forces. The root cause of the current tension and disturbance in cross-Straits relations lies in the Democratic Progressive Party authorities refusing to recognize the 1992 Consensus which embodies the one-China principle, strengthening contacts with external forces and making provocations in pursuit of 'Taiwan independence'. On the political basis of adhering to the 1992 Consensus and opposing 'Taiwan independence', we stand ready to conduct dialogue and consultation with all political parties, groups and personages in the Taiwan region, so that we can resolve differences and build up consensus on political issues across the Strait and on issues related to promoting the peaceful reunification of China. We urge the U.S. side to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, prudently and properly handle Taiwan-related issues, and refrain from sending any wrong signals to the 'Taiwan independence' forces so as to avoid damaging China-U.S. relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

“The DPP [Democratic Progressive Party] government has done a very good job in containing the COVID-19 pandemic. But as an island nation, we should restore international trade with other countries and regions, once vaccines become available around the world. After signing the RCEP [Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership] last month, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi immediately visited Tokyo. It was China’s tactic to use this free trade body to isolate Taiwan in global trade. This is a severe test for Taiwan, and we must let the US and other trading partners know China's aims, that talks on economic links is just a facade, as China’s main political aim is to isolate Taiwan.”

“Recently, the Trump administration is still playing the Taiwan card to provoke the Chinese mainland, as [US] Secretary of State Mike Pompeo even openly said 'Taiwan has not been a part of China.' This kind of encouragement from a US administration toward Taiwan secessionism is unprecedented. So if Beijing does nothing in response, the atmosphere created by Pompeo will grow. To release the message of formulating a blacklist is a countermeasure from the mainland against the anti-China acts of the Trump administration. To these DPP members and secessionists, the mainland authorities want to say 'I am warning you. Behave yourself. I can read your every move and hear your every word. Maybe now I can't touch you, but I will give you a tag.' This will surely affect and deter those secessionists.”

“We remain as firm as a rock in our resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity and will never leave any space for separatist activities seeking 'Taiwan independence' in any form. The Democratic Progressive Party authority and separatist elements pushing for 'Taiwan independence' have colluded with external forces and intensified provocations to seek 'Taiwan independence', which is the root cause of the current complex and grave situation across the Taiwan Strait.”

“The recent combat exercises of the PLA Eastern Theater Command in the Taiwan Straits are aimed at dealing with the current situation. The duration, scale and level of these exercises are unprecedented. Their purpose is to deter Taiwan independence forces and to issue a stern warning to the Democratic Progressive Party authorities; that is, if they think they can do whatever they want with the support and protection of the US, and dare to take a crucial step on the path of pursuing Taiwan independence, the Chinese mainland will be forced to take military actions to solve the Taiwan question, bringing disaster to Taiwan compatriots.”

“Today, the DPP wants to do away with the portrait in order to sever the link between the Republic of China and Sun. Once the national flag is separated from Sun Yat-sen, the significance of the founding of the Republic of China is lost.”
