Ayman Safadi “Tremendous effort has been made to produce an exchange deal that'll release hostages and realize a ceasefire. Hamas has put out an offer. If Netanyahu genuinely wants a deal, he will negotiate the offer in earnest. Instead, he is jeopardizing the deal by bombing Rafah.” 4 hours ago

“While surely Team Biden wants the Moon Jae-in government to be a more active part of what is clearly a growing anti-China coalition, it seems unlikely the Blue House [Korean presidential office] will cave to any pressure. Korea must continue its difficult balancing act, trying to juggle emerging economic ties with China and a much-needed security alliance with America. That won't be easy, but it has been something President Moon thus far has excelled at.”

“I think functionally oriented trilateral cooperation is a good and needed thing, but I also think that depending on the severity of tensions with Tokyo, Seoul might hold trilateralism itself at risk to make a point. If I were in the Blue House [South Korean presidential office], I'd do everything in my power to convince the Biden administration that Seoul - not Tokyo - has the right formula for stabilizing the Korean Peninsula. It's worth remembering that the disastrous policy of maximum pressure in 2017 was actually Japan's idea. If Seoul will ever convince Washington of a peace and reconciliation policy, it will be in the next year. If not, it may never happen.”
