“My estimate is that the period of time will be approximately between four and five years until the elections. The infrastructure for the vote needs to be re-established, and this takes time.”
In late December, Ahmed al-Sharaa, newly appointed interim president of Syria following the ousting of Assad, discussed the time frame for the country’s electoral process. He stated that it would likely take about four years to organize the elections. This period is essential to ensure the country's political systems and infrastructure are rebuilt after the dissolution of Assad’s regime, the army, and various armed groups. Sharaa’s appointment, along with the formation of a transitional government, has been supported by key regional powers, including Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
