  • Mahmoud Abbas
Mahmoud Abbas “We stand ready to work with you [Donald Trump] to achieve peace during you tenure. This would be guided by the two-state solution on international legitimacy. This vision seeks the establishment of the State of Palestine and the State of Israel living side by side in peace and security.” 51 minutes ago
  • Craig Kennedy
Craig Kennedy “Moscow now faces a dilemma: the longer it puts off a ceasefire, the greater the risk that credit events - such as corporate and bank bailouts - uncontrollably arise and weaken Moscow's negotiating leverage.” 1 hour ago
  • Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Recep Tayyip Erdogan “As regards the issue of natural gas, Slovakia was disconnected from gas with termination of transit via Ukraine. We discussed this matter, we have the TurkStream gas pipeline. Let's make a step and discuss this topic at the level of energy ministers. The demand of Slovakia for natural gas should be satisfied. I suggested solving this issue through talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Mr. Putin. I hope we will be able to have communications, to start telephone diplomacy as early as this week.” 1 hour ago
  • Emmanuel Macron
Emmanuel Macron “The challenge after the fighting ends will be to provide Ukraine with guarantees against any return to war on its territory and guarantees for our own security.” 1 hour ago
  • Yara Hawari
Yara Hawari “While the Gaza ceasefire is a positive step the danger to the occupied West Bank from an Israeli invasion continues to rise. It's brought about a huge amount of relief that the bombardment will stop, but I think crucially the ceasefire does not mean an end to the occupation neither in Gaza or the West Bank. So people are under no illusion that this means an end to Israeli control over their lives. I think people are pessimistic as to whether the ceasefire will actually hold because they know the Israeli regime is already trying to sabotage it. The situation in the occupied West Bank remains as precarious as ever. We saw a year of genocide in Gaza go unchecked so the big question is could they do the same in the West Bank? I'm afraid without accountability measures the answer is yes.” 5 hours ago
  • Joe Biden
Joe Biden “These are exceptional circumstances, and I cannot in good conscience do nothing. Baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak havoc on the lives, safety and financial security of targeted individuals and their families. The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense. Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment to our country.” 6 hours ago
  • Ali Jarbawi
Ali Jarbawi “Hamas's parades through Gaza on Sunday are more than a message to the international community that it is in control. They also reflect the reality on the ground. Hamas was there before the war and they're there now.” 16 hours ago
  • Ibrahim Madhoun
Ibrahim Madhoun “The message is that Hamas is 'the day after' for the war. They're conveying that Hamas must be a part of any future arrangements, or at least, be coordinated with.” 16 hours ago

“There are a lot of questions that are brought up by his [Elon Musk] stated goal of streamlining the government and by some of the metrics that he's put out. [And that's] before he's done any of his initial analysis. Musk's willingness to make cuts just speaks to an arrogance that because you've been successful in one domain, that doesn't mean he can be successful in another domain. A skeleton staff manning the federal government will impact how consumers will interact with the government - whether or not airplanes will be safe to fly and cars will be regulated in the correct way and sort of just will people get their tax returns on time. Having somebody who is a beneficiary of government decision-making, you know, in a role to decide which parts of government to streamline, is somebody who is fundamentally conflicted. What's happening here is problematic. Elon Musk has built-in obvious conflicts of interest because the companies that he is associated with have relationships with the very government that he is now going to come in and try to make more efficient.”

“He's [Calin Georgescu] just a guy who managed to use the social networks to make himself visible in a void for many Romanians who lost contact with political parties, at least with the elites in Bucharest. The mainstream political parties have lost the ability to use these new platforms. Politicians from Romania's traditional parties lacked messages of hope and no clear vision for their country ahead of the vote. The debates in these campaigns were very low in quality and ideas.”

“The opposition will do everything to defeat the so-called government, the self-proclaimed government. This is the fight between people fighting for freedom against people who are trying to entrench the deeply authoritarian regime.”

“I believe that Georgescu's success, after largely conducting his campaign via social media, also marks a shift in the way political communication is conducted in Romania. It was the first election where social media has been more influential than television. We have seen how TikTok can defeat mainstream media.”

“The result of the vote was made possible because there is a significant demand in Romanian society for a politician like Georgescu. Why? I could give a more precise answer if there were high-quality sociological data on what Romanians want. Unfortunately, we lack such data.”

“The support for Georgescu was unprecedented, with earlier opinions polls placing him at around 5% of the vote. Never in our 34 years of democracy have we seen such a surge compared to surveys.”

“Romania is now in a historical confrontation between preserving Romania's young democracy … and those who want to return Romania to the Russian sphere of influence. Let us be very clear, Calin Georgescu is an open admirer of Vladimir Putin. He is open against NATO and the European Union … He is for Romania's isolation, which he calls neutrality ... And without NATO we are at the mercy of Russia.”

“Georgescu won the anti-establishment vote. Many are tired of the existing party system, some don't feel represented by them. Because of Georgescu's softer stance on Russia, some trust him to be able to make peace with Russia, but it is illusionary to think that Romania can make an impact there. Georgescu won the diaspora vote, likely from labour migrants in Western Europe because the independent candidate gave them the idea that he would offer them a Romania that is worth returning home.”

“The reality is that the votes that Georgescu got were protest votes against [the] current political class. The majority of Georgescu voters are unaware of his pro-Russia comments, which he said did not find wide resonance within Romania's population. Romanian voters did not want current PM Ciolacu or his coalition partners from the PNL to rise to the top job. Ciolacu's popularity has been falling amid allegations of corruption against him and of plagiarism against a coalition partner. Several anonymous TikTok accounts also boost Georgescu's content on the platform - and it is unclear whether they belong to real people or are bots. The voter discontent with the current government's handling of the economy drove them to seek an alternative candidate to vote out the incumbents. Georgescu was in the right place, at the swipe of their fingers on TikTok.”

“Any future deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles depends on US decisions. The fate of the moratorium is in Washington's hands. Yes, just like before. Entirely and completely, all responsibility for what is happening lies with them, and any escalation scenarios, if they start to materialize, will be a direct consequence of the reckless and, calling things by their proper names, inhumane policy that is pursued by Washington and leading European countries, which fully condone any of Kiev's most ephemeral ambitions and most criminal designs. The president [Russian President Vladimir Putin] said what he said. The issue of deployment is exhaustively covered in his statement. As before, what happens next depends entirely on the choice that our adversaries will make at this extremely alarming and very dangerous moment and on the policy they will pursue.”
