  • Omar Baddar
Omar Baddar “There is a serious division between Israel's military and political establishment over how to proceed. Military leaders realise there is no path to a better future for Israel out of this entire mess, and that it is time to simply end this war. The country's political leaders, however, have absolutely no interest in doing that.” 1 hour ago
  • Volodymyr Zelenskiy
Volodymyr Zelenskiy “This is not a deadlock, this is just a problematic situation. A deadlock means there's no way out, but a problem... A problem can be solved if there is a desire and tools. We have the desire. But the tools... have not arrived, as they say. That means we have brigades with no weapons. We have a reserve. We have 14 brigades that are not equipped, and lack the necessary weapons, which they [Ukraine's partners] have already voted for. They said that the packages should come, but they [the deliveries] are slow.” 1 hour ago

“At this moment of incredible importance for America and the Democratic Party, I would urge President Biden, his family and his party's leadership to ask the same question: What does your worst enemy, Donald Trump, want you to do now? Then do the opposite. Trump is salivating at the prospect of Biden staying in the presidential race so he can pummel him from now until Election Day with 15-second television and radio ads - not to mention memes on social media - of Biden's incoherent responses in last week's debate, each ad asking: Is this the man you want answering the phone at 3 a.m. if the Russians or the Chinese or the Iranians attack us? That is a campaign the Trump G.O.P. cult is surely confident it can win.”

“We have been pretty clear also that we do not want to see Hamas in charge of Gaza any more. This is something that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken laid out last fall when talking about certain principles that the United States views as nonstarters when we're talking about the day after this conflict ends.”

“What is success? And for me, for us, I think success is very clear. It's a Ukraine that is a strong, successful country, increasingly integrated with the West, and a country that can stand on its own feet militarily, economically, democratically. But it's also critical that Ukraine develop the capability to deter and defend against aggression going forward over many years. President Biden led the way in getting now more than 30 countries to agree to negotiate bilateral security agreements with Ukraine over a decade. The United States is trying to stimulate private investment in Ukraine so that its economy can grow and thrive. Now, of course, for both its military capacity and its economic capacity, you've got to make sure that you have air defences in place to try to protect the areas in which you're making investments. We're driving that. I think you'll see more news on that in the coming weeks as we get to the NATO summit actually next week.”

“This [Israeli army evacuation orders for previously declared 'safe zones'] demonstrates that they cannot win the war because they wanted to eliminate Hamas physically and politically, but so far the group is still there. It also proves that Israel wants to win this war by exhausting the people. In this way, it creates much more trouble and harm for Palestinians who cannot stay for more than one month or 15 days in one place.”

“I asked Mr. President whether it was possible to take a break, to stop the firing, and then continue the negotiations. After all, a cease-fire could ensure speeding up the pace of these negotiations. I am very grateful to the president for his frank opinion on this issue.”

“Under this Court's opinion, the only thing that will stop a president from abusing their power is their own sense of restraint and people in the executive branch who may not follow their orders. We face the imminent prospect that a would-be dictator could take office if Trump wins the election this fall.”

“The Russian economy is overheated but, sadly, very far from crisis. It will be hard to achieve a Russian crisis if the West does not block Russian oil exports. Some might say it's basically impossible: they could block it for six months but then Russia will find new ways. Or we will block it but the prices will rise and partially compensate for the losses. For instance, if tomorrow oil price falls to US$40 for some reason, then a crisis will definitely begin in Russia. But oil prices are not expected to plummet like this so Russia has resources to continue the war. With the current oil price Russia can live at least a few years without crisis.”
