  • Alan Boswell
Alan Boswell “The Sudanese have basically been forgotten, obviously there's the war in Gaza which has taken a lot of attention. Frankly it would take very high-level political focus on trying to pressure those who are arming the various sides and have the actual belligerence themselves to stop this. Obviously, the United Nations tools are not very functional.” 27 minutes ago
  • Benjamin Netanyahu
Benjamin Netanyahu “No amount of pressure … will stop Israel from defending itself and achieving its war objectives. Eighty years ago in the Holocaust, the Jewish people were totally defenceless against those who sought our destruction. No nation came to our aid. I pledge here today from Jerusalem on this Holocaust Remembrance Day: If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone. But we know we are not alone because countless decent people around the world support our just cause.” 3 hours ago
  • Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin “We know what the exorbitance of such ambitions leads to. Russia will do everything to prevent a global clash. But at the same time, we will not allow anyone to threaten us. Our strategic forces are always in a state of combat readiness.” 3 hours ago
  • Daoud Kuttab
Daoud Kuttab “Throughout this Israeli war on Gaza, there hasn't been a warning publicly made by the US that Israel has heeded. It is indeed unclear to what extent such warnings are just optics of putting pressure on the Israeli government while continuing to support its every move. In this sense, one should take with a grain of salt reports that the Biden administration is holding off one shipment of weapons to Israel to pressure it into halting the full-scale invasion of Rafah.” 21 hours ago
  • Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders “The US must now use ALL its leverage to demand an immediate ceasefire, the end of the attacks on Rafah, and the immediate delivery of massive amounts of humanitarian aid to people living in desperation. Our leverage is clear. Over the years, the United States has provided tens of billions of dollars in military aid to Israel.” 22 hours ago
  • Lloyd Austin
Lloyd Austin “We've been very clear … from the very beginning that Israel shouldn't launch a major attack into Rafah without accounting for and protecting the civilians that are in that battlespace. We've not made a final determination on how to proceed with that shipment [of weapons].” 22 hours ago
  • Vuk Vuksanović
Vuk Vuksanović “This visit [Xi Jinping in Belgrade] shows that Serbia has exchanged Russia for China went it comes to its main partner to bargain with the West. The full-scale invasion of Ukraine placed the Serbo-Russian relationship under close monitoring, so the government sees a benefit in playing the Chinese card more often now since it's deemed to be less provocative. The Balkans, and Serbia in particular, have become even more interesting for China now that one branch of the Belt and Road Initiative through Russia and Belarus was effectively cut off with the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.” 22 hours ago
  • Aleksandar Vucic
Aleksandar Vucic “I told him [Xi Jinping] that as the leader of a great power he will be met with respect all over the world, but the reverence and love he encounters in our Serbia will not be found anywhere else. When it comes to cooperation with Beijing, the sky is the limit.” 22 hours ago

“With so few cases in Hong Kong, seniors showed a rational hesitancy to the vaccine. When there was no COVID in the community and no expectation there would be COVID, and seniors worried about side effects, you can see why they'd be hesitant. It's basically risky to pursue Zero COVID if you can't be confident that you can deliver Zero COVID.”

“How exactly did the richest country in the world get here? There are a number of reasons, but the primary one is that the United States does not have a free, universal health care system. The lack of a national health insurance program affects everything from vaccine hesitancy to the ability to get a test to how we manage the virus going forward.”

“Fake news has a huge influence on our population, and in Eastern Europe in general. Something we all have in common in this part of Europe is our political history of communism. Under leaders like Nicolae Ceausescu, Romania's longtime dictator, who was overthrown and executed in 1989, nobody trusted their neighbors, nobody trusted the authorities, nobody trusted anybody.”

“This wave is far worse than the others - it is like a war. We go into our wards but don't know when we will come out. What makes the surge particularly difficult is that it could have been easily avoided. A few who got shots fell seriously ill but this was because their immune systems had been compromised by treatment for cancer or other illnesses. The only real reason anyone is here is because they did not get vaccinated.”

“I'm calling on all anti-vaxxers who have unleashed merry hell on social media against vaccinations, look into the eyes of those who have lost loved ones. Our Russian vaccine is absolutely safe.”

“Vaccine rejection doesn't happen in a vacuum. It's easier to dismiss hesitancy and conspiracies as unhinged behaviour; it makes us feel less unnerved by displays of unreason from those who we think are, or should be, rational people. Sure, among vaccine-hesitant people are those who are simply stubborn, misanthropic or selfish. But, just as the pandemic exploited the weaknesses of our economic and public health systems, vaccine hesitancy has exposed the weaknesses of states' bond with their citizens. There are no easy answers for how to deal with those who repeat conspiracy theories and falsehoods, but scrutinising the systems that lost their trust is perhaps a good place to start.”
