  • Yi Wang
Yi Wang “No conflict or war ends on the battlefield, but rather at the negotiating table. China supports the convening at an appropriate time of an international peace conference that is acceptable to the Russian and Ukrainian sides with the participation of all parties equally. There, peace plans can be discussed, fairly, to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible. We must always insist on an objective and just position, there is no magic wand to solve the crisis. All parties should start with themselves.” 14 hours ago
  • Boris Pistorius
Boris Pistorius “Russia is already producing weapons and ammunition beyond its need for conducting an aggressive war against Ukraine. With increased spending on armaments and the streamlining of the military economy, a significant portion or part of what is produced no longer goes to the front line, but ends up in warehouses. Now you can be naive and say he's doing it just out of caution. As a sceptical person, I would say in this case that he's doing it because he has plans or could have them.” 20 hours ago
  • Emmanuel Macron
Emmanuel Macron “There is a risk our Europe could die. We are not equipped to face the risks. Russia must not be allowed to win in Ukraine. Europeans should give preference to buying European military equipment. We must produce more, we must produce faster, and we must produce as Europeans.” 20 hours ago
  • Aleksey Kushch
Aleksey Kushch “By including the Ukraine package in a bill that also provides military aid to Israel and Taiwan, the US shows the world that it equals Ukraine's and Israel's archenemies - Russia and Iran. This is a mighty geopolitical slap for China. As the trade turnover between Russia and China rose to $240bn last year, the more the US pushes Beijing, the more discounts for oil and gas China gets from Russia.” 20 hours ago
  • Nikolay Mitrokhin
Nikolay Mitrokhin “The aid is a surprisingly exact match of Ukrainian military's needs that mostly has a deficit of air defence weaponry of all kinds and also needs to replenish its arsenal of tank destroyers, anti-infantry landmines and other kinds of ammunition. It's obviously needed to deliver infantry and other ground troops to the front line but not for an advance - otherwise the US would have given tanks.” 21 hours ago
  • Ihor Romanenko
Ihor Romanenko “The aid can improve the situation on the 1,000km-long (620-mile-long) front line. But the aid looks like a handout to show that we haven't been forgotten, no more than that. They're always late, they hit the brakes, they're afraid. All of that is done to catch up [with Russia], but wars are won by those who act ahead of time.” 21 hours ago

“No country could shield itself from the repercussions [of a conflict over Taiwan]. Distance would offer no protection from this catastrophic blow to the global economy - and least China's most of all. I shudder to contemplate the human and financial ruin that would follow. It's essential that no party takes unilateral action to change the status quo.”

“The nuclear submarine cooperation between the US, the UK and Australia has seriously undermined regional peace and stability, intensified the arms race and undermined international non-proliferation efforts. The export of highly sensitive nuclear submarine technology to Australia by the US and the UK proves once again that they are using nuclear exports as a tool for geopolitical game and adopting double standards. This is extremely irresponsible. As a non-nuclear weapon state under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and a party to the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone (SPNFZ) Treaty, known as the Treaty of Rarotonga, Australia is now introducing nuclear submarine technology of strategic and military value. The international community, including Australia's neighboring countries, has full reason to question whether Australia is serious about fulfilling its nuclear non-proliferation commitments. China will pay close attention to the development of the relevant situation.”

“The US, UK, Australia and other countries must be held accountable for the violation of human rights committed by their military in Afghanistan and the evolution of this current session should cover this issue. Under the banner of democracy and human rights the US and other countries carry out military interventions in other sovereign states and impose their own model on countries with vastly different history and culture.”

“If the US and other Western countries decide to inflict greater and more substantial damage to Hong Kong or even China, such as totally destroying Hong Kong's status as an international financial center, they should be prepared to abandon a huge number of interests related to the city as such sanctions on trade or finance would just be like a nuclear attack triggering mutual assured destruction economically and financially. The US and UK are different from other Western countries and major EU members like France and Germany on this matter, because China's latest move did create huge losses for the US and UK in Hong Kong. Behind the pretext of 'democracy', the real reason why Washington and London are extremely anxious at this moment is that "their long-lasting plan and huge amount of input in Hong Kong - to breed pro-West proxies or opposition parties to gain political power through the problematic election system - is totally doomed. Other G7 members or major EU powers don't share their pain, so not every Western country desires to escalate their confrontation with China on Hong Kong, so the 'long fight' with the West on Hong Kong is, in fact, mainly with the US and the UK.”

“Beijing's decision to impose radical changes to restrict participation in Hong Kong's electoral system constitutes a further clear breach of the legally binding Sino-British Joint Declaration. The Chinese authorities' continued action means I must now report that the UK considers Beijing to be in a state of ongoing noncompliance with the joint declaration - a demonstration of the growing gulf between Beijing's promises and its actions. The UK will continue to stand up for the people of Hong Kong. China must act in accordance with its legal obligations and respect fundamental rights and freedoms in Hong Kong.”

“Such an action [the imposition of sanctions that the editor of the Global Times tweets saying that China will take against any country which boycotts the Winter Olympic games] would be an act of international bullying, and immensely damaging to China's standing in the world. I urge you to clarify immediately the position of the Chinese government on this sanctions threat. It is why I believe Britain and our athletes must not take part in the Winter Olympics in China. If we did, knowing what we know, our presence would be seen as cover for a Chinese government committing genocide against its own people. No country wants to pull their athletes out of such major international sporting occasions, but we cannot compromise when it comes to crimes of this nature.”

“China's decision to ban BBC World News in mainland China is an unacceptable curtailing of media freedom. China has some of the most severe restrictions on media & internet freedoms across the globe, & this latest step will only damage China's reputation in the eyes of the world.”

“Boycotting 2022 Beijing Winter Games, an unpopular idea, won't receive wide support. IOC [International Olympic Committee] and athletes will both oppose it, and China will seriously sanction any country that follows such a call.”

“All five categories of genocide behaviour, according to the Genocide Convention, are already in play in Xinjiang province. So I think it's just extraordinary that the British government seems to have no backbone about it. I just can't see why anybody would want to go to the Winter Olympics in Beijing. And I think the British Olympic Association should be calling for the Winter Olympics to move, and if it doesn't move, then we should be boycotting it.”

“The evidence that a genocide is now occurring in western China is so clear that the UK and the whole world must now stand up to Beijing and use every available tool to stop it. No doubt we will hear teams, sponsors and governing bodies say the Olympics and Paralympics should be separate from politics and that they are just concentrating on sport. But in the face of genocide, that just isn't good enough. The 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will be used as a propaganda tool for a regime committing genocide. Team GB, ParalympicsGB and the government have a moral responsibility to consider if sending a team to these Games is really the right thing to do.”

It is important that we remain confident in the major trends of economic globalization, the prospects of China's opening-up and development, and in the future of China-UK mutually beneficial cooperation.”

“If UK government goes that far to impose sanctions on any individual in China, China will certainly make a resolute response to it. You've seen what happens in the United States - they sanction Chinese officials, we sanction their senators, their officials. I do not want to see this tit-for-tat happen in... China-UK relations.”

“It's necessary for China to retaliate against UK, otherwise wouldn't we be too easy to bully? Such retaliation should be public and painful for the UK. But it's unnecessary to turn it into a China-UK confrontation. The UK is not the US, nor Australia, nor Canada. It is a relative "weak link" in the Five Eyes. In the long run, the UK has no reason to turn against China, with the Hong Kong issue fading out.”

“This disappointing decision is bad news for anyone in the UK with a mobile phone. It threatens to move Britain into the digital slow lane, push up bills and deepen the digital divide. Instead of 'levelling up' the government is levelling down and we urge them to reconsider. Regrettably our future in the UK has become politicised, this is about US trade policy and not security.”
