  • Yair Lapid
Yair Lapid “This government has to choose: return the abductees alive, or Ben Gvir and Smotrich, relations with the Americans or Ben Gvir and Smotrich, the Saudi deal or Ben Gvir and Smotrich, Israel's security or Ben Gvir and Smotrich.” 25 minutes ago
  • Dmitry Peskov
Dmitry Peskov “On the Ukrainian side, the panic is growing on the frontline. And this is first-hand information that there, on that side, the panic is growing. It is very important for us now to maintain this dynamics. It is very important not to stop and continue fulfilling [the tasks of the special military operation].” 3 hours ago
  • Oleksandr Syrskyi
Oleksandr Syrskyi “In general, the enemy achieved certain tactical successes in these areas [villages of Berdychi and Semenivka, north of Avdiivka, and Novomykhailivka, near the town of Maryinka], but could not gain operational advantages.” 3 hours ago
  • Rina Shah
Rina Shah “Protests in US universities are a display of democracy in action, a welcome sight in an election year marked by concerns of voter apathy chiefly due to Israel's war on Gaza. So when I see a movement like this of students taking peaceful, non-violent action and expressing their concern about the US government backing of Israel, of where our tax money is going, I think that's extremely healthy. These students are out there concerned about America's role in backing Benjamin Netanyahu. On the one hand, we are supplying weapons and funds to do what he wants to do in Gaza, while on the other we are sending humanitarian aid to Gaza. This is the hypocrisy these students are concerned about.” 18 hours ago
  • Thomas Friedman
Thomas Friedman “But revenge is not a strategy. It is pure insanity that Israel is now more than six months into this war and the Israeli military leadership - and virtually the entire political class - has allowed Netanyahu to continue to pursue a 'total victory' there, including probably soon plunging deep into Rafah, without any exit plan or Arab partner lined up to step in once the war ends. If Israel ends up with an indefinite occupation of both Gaza and the West Bank, it would be a toxic military, economic and moral overstretch that would delight Israel's most dangerous foe, Iran, and repel all its allies in the West and the Arab world.” 18 hours ago
  • Volodymyr Zelenskiy
Volodymyr Zelenskiy “Of course, I'm grateful to all of our partners who have helped us with air defence: each air defence system and each air defence missile is literally saving lives. It's important that everything works out as quickly as possible: every new agreement with our partners to strengthen our air defence, every initiative from Ukraine's friends to help us, particularly with finding and supplying Patriot [anti-aircraft missile systems]. Ukraine needs at least seven [Patriot] systems. Our partners have these Patriots. Russian terrorists can see that unfortunately our partners aren't as determined to protect Europe from terror as they are to do so in the Middle East. But [our partners] can give us the air defence systems that we need. We mustn't waste time: we need to signal determination.” 22 hours ago

Turkey involvement in Africa

“Rather than limiting itself with the immediate neighbours, Turkey has been reaching out to wider regions including Africa to diversify its strategic engagements. In this regard, Ankara has considered African countries to be equal partners in its foreign policy objectives as well as economic goals. In recent years, however, these countries have increasingly become aware of their unique potential, not only for economic strength but also for diplomatic and military capabilities. Therefore, these countries became more open to new regional and global powers, including Turkey, to increase their engagements to defend their interests.”

“The successful breakthroughs Turkey has experienced in the defence industry in recent years are certainly reflected in its relations with Africa. It was expected to improve defence cooperation with countries such as Somalia, Niger and Ethiopia. Moreover, as seen in Libya, Turkish drones will make great contributions to the peace in the region. It is not difficult to predict that in the new period, Turkey-Africa cooperation will find new key sectors in the military and commercial fields.”

“One-point-three billion people live on the African continent and it is not represented at the Security Council. This is a huge, flagrant injustice. I am still excited and thrilled every time I visit the continent. This summit is a testament to the fact that Turkey is interested in Africa and Turkey's interest in Africa is not a temporary interest, it is a maintained commitment. Our African brothers and sisters are showing they are interested in better cooperation with Turkey.”

“I believe it will bring our countries closer. And I also believe that it gives us an opportunity to discuss the various areas of interest, especially trade opportunities, that exist between both countries. Turkey has had ties with Nigeria since it gained independence in 1960. They have grown closer with the good relationship between Erdogan and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. Direct flights between Turkey and Nigeria have enabled many Nigerians to visit Turkey to shop for the holidays and for medical tourism. The countries will grow closer still. Turkish investments in Africa are very different from Chinese ones. I've been in discussions with various Turkish industrialists and investors, and they were interested in coming to do business in Africa. They are prepared to give long-term facilities to the African continent.”

“Turkey's business model, unlike other actors, is fast, practical and impactful. Turkish products are favoured by Africans as they are cheaper than those from Europe and more quality than the Chinese products. It's important for African countries to diversify their partners, so they can balance growing Chinese influence and Western powers that try to maintain their hegemony with new actors. Hence strengthening ties with Turkey will benefit African nations.”

“Turkey's relations with two prominent countries, Nigeria and Angola, which have enormous energy resources are currently far behind their potentials. It wouldn't be a surprise if they begin to play a role in Turkey's energy supply.”

“An Angola that embraces the global world with an active foreign policy and a stronger economic structure will benefit Angolans and the whole region. Hence, Turkey is ready to contribute to the reform process, especially in terms of diversifying economic resources, strengthening the infrastructure and creating new employment opportunities.”
