  • Catherine Russell
Catherine Russell “Rafah is now a city of children, who have nowhere safe to go in Gaza. If large-scale military operations start, not only will children be at risk from the violence, but also from chaos and panic, and at a time where their physical and mental states are already weakened.” 1 hour ago

Hani Mahmoud “You cannot create a safe zone in a war zone. Every time people move from one place to another, they are in search of basic needs and … necessities that are becoming very hard to find right now.” 1 hour ago

“It [Wagner relationship with RSF] is primarily aimed at creating a smuggling route for the gold from Sudan to Dubai and then to Russia so that they can fund Wagner Group operations inside Ukraine.”

“Russia cherishes its strong ties with Latin America, Asia and Africa, and is ready to offer partners and allies the most modern types of weapons - from small arms to armoured vehicles and artillery, combat aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. Almost all of them have been used more than once in real combat operations. We are talking about high-precision weapons and robotics, about combat systems based on new physical principles. Many of them are years, or maybe decades ahead of their foreign counterparts, and in terms of tactical and technical characteristics they are significantly superior to them. I want to emphasise that Russia stands for the broadest comprehensive development [and] military-technical cooperation. Today in conditions of confidence in the emerging multipolar world, this is especially important. We highly appreciate the fact that our country has many like-minded allies and partners on different continents. These are the states that do not succumb to the so-called hegemon. Their leaders show a real masculine character and do not bend.”

“They [Wagner] have protected the elites in Bangui, fought back Bozizé's rebels and they haven't lost a lot of people doing that. But they are not getting a good return on investment other than some individuals profiting from access to resources they got in return for their services. Beyond irritating the West, Russia has no strategic interest in the CAR per se. They have never been historically interested in the country. But the CAR was supposed to be part of what you may call a 'corridor of influence' across this part of the African continent, starting in Sudan and then going on into Congo. Ukraine puts a stop to that. They are overstretched and, of course, Russia is not China. They don't have deep pockets. So as far as building that corridor of influence is concerned, it's back to the drawing board.”
