If Biden wants to prevent North Korea from acting out, he needs to first provide the government with new incentives to talk-and that means new restrictions Washington can use as carrots. Biden, in other words, needs to take North Korean policy off autopilot and launch a proactive effort to deter Pyongyang. Otherwise, he risks encouraging an already emboldened Kim to stage a major provocation.” 9 hours ago

Christopher Cavoli “Russians don't have the numbers necessary to do a strategic breakthrough. More to the point, they don't have the skill and capability to do it, to operate at the scale necessary to exploit any breakthrough to strategic advantage. They do have the ability to make local advances and they have done some of that.” 9 hours ago

“We must all learn about the history and legacy of residential schools. It's only by facing these hard truths, and righting these wrongs, that we can move forward together toward a more positive, fair, and better future.”

“The mindset that put into place the residential schools and the system of settler colonialism that Canada and Canadians benefit from … that all still is continuing to this day. I'm hopeful that Canadians can pay attention to the current events and see that injustices continue to happen on the part of the Canadian government.”

“Many Catholic religious communities and dioceses participated in this system, which led to the suppression of Indigenous languages, culture and spirituality, failing to respect the rich history, traditions and wisdom of Indigenous peoples. We acknowledge the grave abuses that were committed by some members of our Catholic community; physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural and sexual. The Catholic Bishops of Canada express our profound remorse and apologize unequivocally.”

“As a Catholic, I am deeply disappointed by the position that the Catholic Church has taken now and over the past many years. We're still seeing resistance from the church. I think, if it is necessary, we will take stronger measures. Before we have to start taking the Catholic Church to court, I am very hopeful that religious leaders will understand that this is something they need to participate in.”

“The residential school system is a dark and painful part of the Canadian story and, tragically, new chapters are still being added to this sad history. As a parent it's devastating to think that 215 children were buried by their school and lost for decades. As an MP and as leader of the Conservative Party, this tragic discovery is a stark reminder of our duty to heal the wounds from this horrific part of our history.”

“To honour the 215 children whose lives were taken at the former Kamloops residential school and all Indigenous children who never made it home, the survivors, and their families, I have asked that the Peace Tower flag and flags on all federal buildings be flown at half-mast.”

“The discovery in Kamloops marked the first time a whispered knowing was made real and its effect is being felt across the country, especially by residential school survivors. Although those children that we are referring to right now went to the Kamloops Indian Residential School, we know that all of those children were not from Kamloops. That was the nature of residential schools, it was to take our children as far away from our homelands. The grief is not localised into that community, and it is a huge burden that they are carrying right now.”
