  • Stephen J. Rapp
Stephen J. Rapp “Any prosecution has to be a good process, otherwise it'll look like score-settling. And that can play a key role in reconciling a society and defusing efforts to settle scores, for instance, against the children of parents who committed these crimes.” 8 hours ago
  • Kaja Kallas
Kaja Kallas “We will be looking at how to ease sanctions. But this must follow tangible progress in a political transition that reflects Syria in all its diversity.” 13 hours ago
  • Hossein Salami
Hossein Salami “Iran's military is not as weak as some believed. We know that such judgments are the dreams of the enemy, not realities on the ground. Be careful, don't make any strategic mistakes or miscalculations.” 13 hours ago
  • Keith Kellog
Keith Kellog “These pressures are not just kinetic, just not military force, but they must be economic and diplomatic as well. There are now opportunities to change Iran for the better. We must exploit the weakness we now see. The hope is there, so must too be the action.” 13 hours ago
  • Annalena Baerbock
Annalena Baerbock “Sanctions against Assad's henchmen who committed serious crimes during the civil war must remain in place. Germany would provide another €50m for food, emergency shelter and medical care. Syrians now need a quick dividend from the transition of power.” 13 hours ago

“It's clear that a new chapter starts for Europe and the entire world -- just 11 days from now, a time when we have to cooperate even more, rely on one another even more, and achieve even greater results together. I see this as a time of opportunities.”

“We need to stand with Ukraine, and every step … needs to be taken with Ukraine and in the presence of the European Union. The future of Ukraine is decided in Europe and not elsewhere.”

“This month, the European Union will provide Ukraine with an additional 4,2 billion euros to support the Ukrainian budget. On top of this, starting next month, we plan to provide, for a full year, every month, 1,5 billion euros of assistance. This money comes from the proceeds of Russia's frozen assets and can also be used for military purposes.”

“We've reached the breaking point. Now it's the moment when member states have to decide: we go and we support. The Russians are pushing a lot. The Russians are not waiting for negotiations. Russia continues pushing slowly but continuously. The situation on the frontline is not good (but) the Ukrainians resist. The Russian superiority continues. They have been provided by North Korea much more than we have been able to provide to the Ukrainians. I have to recognise: is Russia politically isolated? Certainly not. How many people went to Kazan? I can't frankly say that Russia is becoming isolated in the international community.”

“Trump has been very clear that Europeans need to ramp up their defence spending even further. He wants a three percent of GDP pledge and we can expect him to push this hard. Europeans have long recognised the need to step up on security and defence, but this realisation has not been matched by resources or true political will. The systemic threat that Russia poses to European security makes this shift extremely urgent if American engagement decreases. The first thing Europe needs to do now is to take the lead in supporting Ukraine towards victory against Russia. Europe will also be up against opposition to autonomy from Trump. He does not want the European defence market to become autonomous, which is a prerequisite for European strategic autonomy. Rather, we saw during the previous Trump administration that he pushed Europeans to buy more American defence material. Neither has he expressed any wish for the Europeans to develop their own nuclear deterrence, another necessary condition for European strategic autonomy.”

“The second reason for our meeting today is that the Commission has just paid to Ukraine a first tranche of EUR 4.5 billion from the Facility. It is the very first time that there is a disbursement now. This payment, in the form of a bridge financing, is crucial to help you maintain the functioning of the state in this very difficult moment. In April, once Ukraine fulfils the conditions we agreed upon, we will make a second disbursement of the bridge financing of EUR 1.5 billion. So today is a good day for Ukraine. Funds are flowing to meet urgent needs. And the country has laid a solid foundation for the EU's support, right up until the end of 2027.”

“Europe faces a dilemma in aiding Ukraine: Providing assistance requires significant financial commitment, and there is considerable opposition within Europe; however, refraining from giving aid would completely undermine years of political correctness. Europe will still provide assistance to Ukraine, but the extent and speed of aid will be reduced. The previously approved 50 billion euro aid package may not be implemented as quickly as anticipated. Regardless of how the situation unfolds in the future, the European powers will not be dragged into conflicts. Zelensky has gained the support of the European powers he desired, achieving a win-win situation with a document that holds little substance.”

“This guarantees funding for four years, so it gives a longer-term sense of security. There's also a lot of talk here about some of these funds going into an investment fund to try to attract private sector investment.”

“We have a deal. The move locks in steadfast, long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine. EU is taking leadership and responsibility in support for Ukraine; we know what is at stake.”

“Victor Orban reads the cards right, unfortunately. He understands the wind in the EU is changing. There are more and more voices in the EU that want the Ukrainians to just sit down at the table and negotiate peace with the Russians because we cannot afford to support Ukraine forever.”

“I am confident that the United States will not let us down and that what we have agreed upon with the United States will be fully implemented. As for the [EU's] 50 billion euros, I'm confident that a decision will be made in the very near future when they convene. It has been arranged in a way that … there are other mechanisms in place to ensure that Ukraine receives these 50 billion.”

“Hungarians ... don't bow to pressure. There are conditions, they were not met. The council is not in a position to decide. We have an opinion and we will stand by that.”

“A majority of European politicians want to make such important decisions which are entirely unprepared and lack strategic agreement on the future of Europe. We will not give in to any pressure ... irrespective of where that is coming from, from whom, and what kind of blackmail it is or promise.”

“Europe will be with us until our victory. I've heard it from a number of European leaders … about the readiness to give us the necessary weapons and support, including the aircraft. I have a number of bilaterals now; we are going to raise the issue of the fighter jets and other aircraft.”

“We are fighting to be equal members of Europe. Do prove that you are with us. Do prove that you will not let us go. Do prove that you are indeed Europeans and then life will win over death and light will win over darkness. The EU will be much stronger with us. Without you, Ukraine will be lonesome.”
