  • Benjamin Netanyahu
Benjamin Netanyahu “But while Israel has shown willingness, Hamas remains entrenched in its extreme positions, first among them the demand to remove all our forces from the Gaza Strip, end the war, and leave Hamas in power. Israel cannot accept that.” 2 hours ago
  • Bernard Smith
Bernard Smith “I know my colleagues who were working out of occupied East Jerusalem have now stopped working out of there, and both Arabic and English channels have stopped broadcasting from there. The reason that those of us here in Ramallah and Gaza are still operating is because this is the occupied Palestinian territories. The Cabinet decision applies in Israel and Israel's domestic territory. To close Al Jazeera's operations in this part of the occupied West Bank, a military order from the governor would be required. That hasn't come yet. The network might be looking at some legal appeal, but it's a 45-day closure for now. It could be extended again, but it gives the Israeli authorities the right to seize Al Jazeera's broadcasting equipment and cut the channel from cable and satellite broadcasters. We know that's already happened in the last couple of hours in Israel; any operators that have been broadcasting Al Jazeera English or Arabic now have a sign on their screens saying they're no longer allowed to transmit and receive Al Jazeera.” 2 hours ago
  • Omar Shakir
Omar Shakir “Their [Al Jazeera] offices have been bombed in Gaza. Their staff have been beaten in the West Bank. They've been killed in the West Bank and Gaza. Rather than trying to silence reporting on its atrocities in Gaza, Israel should stop committing them.” 3 hours ago

“The bill will represent the most significant investment to address the climate crisis ever and will truly transform this nation. We are going to get off the sidelines of manufacturing solar panels and wind farms. The package will help double the number of electric cars on US roads within three years and provide 500,000 new charging stations for the vehicles. We are once again going to be the innovators. It's a big deal. The weather is not going to get better, it's going to get a heck of a lot worse. It's a blinking code red for America and the world.”

“The Biden administration's narrative that the US is the world's climate leader holding China to account was overblown. It's not even clear if there is enough political will in the US to move away from fossil fuels. All this posturing, this moral self-righteousness is counterproductive and it's also based on a false premise that America is following a better path than it currently is.”

“I'm delighted to see that the United States is back, is back to work together with us in climate politics. Because there can be no doubt about the world needing your contribution if we really want to fulfill our ambitious goals.”

“The Biden administration is coming in with heavy hitters who know the people they'll be meeting with. They know the process, and they know how the negotiations work. That we have a strong roster of expertise and seasoned professionals is very helpful. There's not much of a learning curve. A lot of people have name recognition and their presence on behalf of the US government carries a lot of weight. Everybody knows that Americans like to compete and win, but we can be partners [while] angling to get our share of the pie. Joe Biden pitched the American Jobs Plan and used the word 'climate' just once in Pittsburgh. But this is the most game-changing policy proposal on climate change that the US has ever seen.”
