  • Rina Shah
Rina Shah “Protests in US universities are a display of democracy in action, a welcome sight in an election year marked by concerns of voter apathy chiefly due to Israel's war on Gaza. So when I see a movement like this of students taking peaceful, non-violent action and expressing their concern about the US government backing of Israel, of where our tax money is going, I think that's extremely healthy. These students are out there concerned about America's role in backing Benjamin Netanyahu. On the one hand, we are supplying weapons and funds to do what he wants to do in Gaza, while on the other we are sending humanitarian aid to Gaza. This is the hypocrisy these students are concerned about.” 11 hours ago
  • Thomas Friedman
Thomas Friedman “But revenge is not a strategy. It is pure insanity that Israel is now more than six months into this war and the Israeli military leadership - and virtually the entire political class - has allowed Netanyahu to continue to pursue a 'total victory' there, including probably soon plunging deep into Rafah, without any exit plan or Arab partner lined up to step in once the war ends. If Israel ends up with an indefinite occupation of both Gaza and the West Bank, it would be a toxic military, economic and moral overstretch that would delight Israel's most dangerous foe, Iran, and repel all its allies in the West and the Arab world.” 11 hours ago
  • Volodymyr Zelenskiy
Volodymyr Zelenskiy “Of course, I'm grateful to all of our partners who have helped us with air defence: each air defence system and each air defence missile is literally saving lives. It's important that everything works out as quickly as possible: every new agreement with our partners to strengthen our air defence, every initiative from Ukraine's friends to help us, particularly with finding and supplying Patriot [anti-aircraft missile systems]. Ukraine needs at least seven [Patriot] systems. Our partners have these Patriots. Russian terrorists can see that unfortunately our partners aren't as determined to protect Europe from terror as they are to do so in the Middle East. But [our partners] can give us the air defence systems that we need. We mustn't waste time: we need to signal determination.” 16 hours ago
  • Antony Blinken
Antony Blinken “I saw that Huawei just put out a new laptop that it boasted was AI capable, that uses an Intel chip. I think it demonstrates that what we're focused on is only the most sensitive technology that could pose a threat to our security. We're not focused on cutting off trade, or for that matter containing or holding back China.” 20 hours ago

Bosnia and its path toward EU

“We have realised that it is not enough to just wait for the Western Balkans to move closer to us. It is not enough to say that the door is open. We must also take responsibility, and support their path towards our union in any possible way... More progress has been achieved in just over a year than in over a decade. First, Bosnia and Herzegovina is now fully aligned with our foreign and security policy, which is crucial in these times of geopolitical turmoil. The country is showing that it can deliver on the membership criteria, and on its citizens' aspiration to be part of our family. The message coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina is clear. So our message must be clear too. The future of Bosnia and Herzegovina lies in our union.”

“Bosnia also needs a strong reaffirmation of its European future - one that puts it clearly on a path towards EU membership. Since the country applied for EU membership in 2016, there has been no momentum-generating EU decision. Now is the time for the EU to grant Bosnia a candidate status. Failure to act early and decisively could invite pernicious actors to escalate their destabilising politics. If Bosnia is pushed over the edge, it will not be only its people that will suffer the consequences, but the whole of Europe.”

“I'm counting on the close cooperation with the EU and the US. And as far as my duties are concerned, I'll see the BiH Presidency and state institutions as my primary partners, which is in line with the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitution. With the help of the international community, BiH will return to the international agenda. We will all work together to meet the 14 priorities for BiH's accession to the EU. Work will also be done on the 5 + 2 program, more specifically, I will work on it, and especially on the protection of the territorial integrity of BiH.”

“Further reforms are needed, building upon modest progress to date. We support an inclusive dialogue involving reforms that will allow BiH to advance on its European path and to obtain candidate status. This is only possible by affirming Bosnia and Herzegovina's pluralistic nature while ensuring a functional democracy where all peoples and citizens are equal.”

“We cannot talk about the European path without talking about the current political situation in BiH. Many believe that BiH has a systemic error in terms of its existence. There are different opinions – according to one of them, the signing of the Dayton Accords itself began the integration process. The second opinion goes towards unitary country creation, while the third goes towards the need of full autonomy preservation, and the fourth that BiH should disband peacefully. Because of all that, BiH is a much more complex country today, and many even consider it a failure or a country of frozen conflict, which is not able to find a basic internal consensus.”

“Good to meet Bosnia and Herzegovina Foreign minister Bisera Turković. Positive steps in reform agenda, but BiH needs to further advance from Dayton to Brussels. Cooperation on Migration and EU support to the region in tackling consequences of COVID19 will continue.”
