“Whoever forms the next government in Kosovo must ensure that relations with Washington remain strong and intact. Kosovo cannot afford to be at odds with its allies. I would say, if you want a good relationship with the United States, make deals, get into the bazaar, be ready to negotiate. And I think that actions that are seen as causing difficulty will not go over well in Washington. Actions that are seen [as] advancing the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia will be greeted warmly in Washington.”

“Historically, it's been a time to talk about unity and togetherness and just celebrate this magnificent holiday in our national civic religion. It's complicated to have Donald Trump celebrating football, especially because of his somewhat troubled relationship with the N.F.L. and its players.”

“This is similar to sports betting or gambling. The retail customer putting in their funds is doing so at risk of losing most if not all of it with the hope of an outsize payoff.”

“Every action taken by the Trump-Vance administration is fully legal and compliant with federal law. Any legal challenge against it is nothing more than an attempt to undermine the will of the American people.”

“President Trump is not stealing other branches' powers. He is exercising his Article II powers under the Constitution. And judges who say he can't? They're legally wrong. The Supreme Court is going to side with Trump.”

“The administration seems to have wanted challenges that consume a ton of resources - of opponents, courts and public attention - even as members of the administration know the provisions do not square with the law that exists.”

“No president should be able to rewrite 120-plus years of interpretation of the Constitution with a stroke of a pen. That is the existential threat.”

“These dangerous and irresponsible statements confirm the approach of the Israeli occupation forces in their disrespect for international and UN laws and treaties and the sovereignty of states.”

“If Ukraine wants to receive assistance, including sanctions against Russia, it must meet three conditions: restore gas transit, not use military means to attack the TurkStream gas pipeline, and not impose a ban on Russian oil supplies to Europe through its territory. Otherwise the sanctions, a decision on which must be made in a week, will not be extended. It turns out that we are paying for aid to Ukraine, and they are hindering us with their actions. Things will not work this way. If Ukraine had not interfered in our affairs, there would not be such energy prices here and gasoline would not be so expensive. The EU has to decide by January 31 whether to prolong the sanctions against Russia imposed over the conflict in Ukraine for another six months. If we look at the figures for the last three years, we will see that Hungary has lost about 19 bln euro due to the sanctions. Now the question of extending the sanctions is on the table, but I pulled the handbrake and told other European leaders that this cannot go on any longer.”
“Ukraine not only stopped gas transit through its territory but also allegedly refuses to negotiate, while its decision threatens Hungary, Slovakia and the entire region. Kyiv is no longer in a secure enough position to afford such behaviour. If they remain aggressive and hostile, they will lose. Eventually, we will get angry and fight back. The way Kyiv is trying to control and shape relations with Central European countries today is unacceptable.”
“Hungary has already sweated blood to reach the current 2 percent target, and if the 2 percent has to be increased, that would shoot the Hungarian economy in the lungs. We would prefer to not spend even 2 percent of GDP on weaponry...but the world is going in the opposite direction.”
“We proposed a Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale prisoner exchange. It's sad that President Zelenskyy clearly rejected and ruled this out today. We did what we could!”
“According to Russian reports, US and French soldiers were killed in airstrikes launched by the Russians on Ukrainian territory, which indicates these soldiers were present there. At first, you just say you support the war, then you send weapons there, and sooner or later soldiers appear who can be killed. This is exactly what happened in Ukraine to people with military status from Western Europe and America.”
“If Donald Trump had won in 2020 in the United States, these two nightmarish years wouldn't have happened. There wouldn't have been a war. The situation on the front is obvious - there's been a military defeat. The Americans are going to pull out of this war.”
“There was agreement that Europe should take more responsibility for securing peace and safety. To put this more bluntly, we cannot wait for the Americans to protect us.”
“They [Western countries] find themselves in a difficult position, fighting a war that has already been lost. The situation is that Western countries do not want to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war, and so it is a valid question whether [Hungary] has room for maneuver. Reviving the Cold War is a bad idea, yet many are responding to the Russia-Ukraine war in this way and have effectively declared it in the economic sphere. We have managed to stay out of the war, and I think we can avoid bad economic policies based on faulty military logic. Hungary continues to buy Russian oil and gas as it has secured an exemption from some EU sanctions. If former President Donald Trump wins the November 5 US election, the party of war in America will be replaced by the party of peace. Former President Trump will return, and then we will be able to breathe a sigh of relief, as we will no longer be alone; at least there will be two of us.”
“It was an honour to visit President [Donald Trump] at Mar-a-Lago today. We discussed ways to make peace. The good news of the day: he's going to solve it!”
“China is a key power in creating the conditions for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war. This is why I came to meet with President Xi in Beijing, just two months after his official visit to Budapest.”
“This meeting with Putin is special because it took place during the war. We have realised over the past two and a half years that we cannot achieve peace without dialogue and diplomatic channels. Hungary is one of the few countries who can talk to both sides of the war. I felt that the positions are very far apart, that many steps need to be taken to establish peace, but the first important step towards dialogue has already been taken.”
“I asked Mr. President whether it was possible to take a break, to stop the firing, and then continue the negotiations. After all, a cease-fire could ensure speeding up the pace of these negotiations. I am very grateful to the president for his frank opinion on this issue.”
“Today, we defeated the old opposition, the new opposition, and no matter what the opposition will be called the next time, we will defeat them again and again.”
“The Russian military is fighting a serious and difficult war with the Ukrainians. If the Russians were strong enough to wrestle down the Ukrainians in one go, they would have done so already. NATO's military capabilities far exceeded those of Ukraine, therefore it is unlikely that Russia or any other country would mount an attack against NATO. I do not consider it logical that Russia, which cannot even defeat Ukraine, would all of a sudden come and swallow the Western world whole. The chances of this are extremely slim.”
“In Europe the atmosphere is war, politics is dominated by the logic of war. I see everyone preparing for war. We are one step away from the West sending troops to Ukraine. This is a vortex of war that could push Europe into the abyss. Brussels he is playing with fire. We Hungarians know what war is like. We've been involved enough times. We don't want war and we don't want Hungary to become a playground for the great powers again. This is why we must fight for peace - at home, in Brussels, in Washington, at the United Nations and in NATO.”
“If we want to defend Hungary's freedom and sovereignty, we have no other choice but to occupy Brussels. We will march to Brussels and bring the change to the European Union ourselves.”
“We finally negotiated a control mechanism to guarantee that the money would be used sensibly, and we received a guarantee that Hungary's money would not end up in Ukraine.”
“Hungarians ... don't bow to pressure. There are conditions, they were not met. The council is not in a position to decide. We have an opinion and we will stand by that.”
“We cannot avoid the question - when during the autumn we will have negotiations in Brussels about the future of Ukraine - whether we can actually seriously consider membership for a country, to start accession talks with a country that is at war. We don't know how big the territory of this country is, as the war is still ongoing, we don't know how big its population is as they are fleeing ... to admit a country to the EU without knowing its parameters, this would be unprecedented. So I think we need to answer very long and difficult questions until we get to actually deciding about the start of accession talks.”
“The Western strategy on Ukraine has been built on four pillars - that Ukraine can win a war against Russia with NATO weapons, that sanctions would weaken Russia and destabilise its leadership, that sanctions would hurt Russia more than Europe, and that the world would line up in support of Europe. This strategy has failed as governments in Europe are collapsing like dominoes, energy prices have surged and a new strategy was needed now. We are sitting in a car that has a puncture in all four tyres: it is absolutely clear that the war cannot be won in this way. Ukraine will never win the war this way quite simply because the Russian army has assymetrical dominance.”
