“The American move to pause big bomb transfers is largely symbolic. But it's a sign of trouble and could become more of a problem if it is sustained. It's not some kind of American embargo on American munitions support, but I think it's some kind of diplomatic message to Mr Netanyahu that he needs to take into consideration American interests more than he has over the last few months. It's kind of a signal, a 'be careful'.”

“Around 700 people stayed in Avdiivka. The situation is not easy; regular checks are ongoing. The excitement of the majority of those who remained and waited for the Russians has long faded. Even those who didn't care admit now that it was far better under Ukraine's control. Because there is no evidence of democracy or that it was 'liberators' that came to them.”

“The Sudanese have basically been forgotten, obviously there's the war in Gaza which has taken a lot of attention. Frankly it would take very high-level political focus on trying to pressure those who are arming the various sides and have the actual belligerence themselves to stop this. Obviously, the United Nations tools are not very functional.”

“No amount of pressure … will stop Israel from defending itself and achieving its war objectives. Eighty years ago in the Holocaust, the Jewish people were totally defenceless against those who sought our destruction. No nation came to our aid. I pledge here today from Jerusalem on this Holocaust Remembrance Day: If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone. But we know we are not alone because countless decent people around the world support our just cause.”

“We know what the exorbitance of such ambitions leads to. Russia will do everything to prevent a global clash. But at the same time, we will not allow anyone to threaten us. Our strategic forces are always in a state of combat readiness.”

“The recent imprisonment of the three young Hong Kong pro-democracy activists serves as a stern reminder that we are once again presented with the fundamental decision to make; that is, we either defend democracy, or we surrender to the threat of authoritarianism.”
“This submarine is an important part of allowing our navy to develop asymmetric warfare and to intimidate and block enemy ships from surrounding Taiwan’s main island. With the construction of the submarine to its future commission, we will certainly let the world know our persistence in safeguarding our sovereignty.”

“The rapid dismantling and realignment of global supply chains is now irreversible, and Taiwanese businesses around the world are moving toward segmented markets, production base migration and reshoring to invest in Taiwan at an ever-faster pace. We will link all of these related policies and programs, while integrating government and private sector resources with cross-department capabilities to achieve full and comprehensive participation in the realignment process, making Taiwan an indispensable force in global supply chains.”
“As long as the Beijing authorities are willing to resolve antagonisms and improve cross-strait relations, while parity and dignity are maintained, we are willing to work together to facilitate meaningful dialogue. Maintaining stability in cross-strait relations is in the best interests of both sides. We are committed to upholding cross-strait stability, but this is not something Taiwan can shoulder alone; it is the joint responsibility of both sides.”
“Faced with Chinese communists’ saber-rattling and intimidations ... we should demonstrate our belief not to yield an inch of our territory and sovereignty.”
“I have a lot of confidence in you. As soldiers of the Republic of China [ROC], how could we let enemies strut around in our own airspace? I’m aware that facing the provocative behavior of the communist planes that have encircled the island and damaged regional peace in recent days. Your duty at the front line of the airspace in Penghu must be even heavier.”
“I believe that these actions are not helpful to China and its international image. On the other hand, because of these actions, the people of Taiwan are more alert and understand the nature of the Chinese Communist regime.”
“The risk of conflict requires careful management by all the parties concerned. We expect and hope that Beijing will continue to exercise restraint consistent with their obligations as a major regional power. There continue to be significant concerns over the potential for accidents, given increased military activity in the region. Therefore we believe it would be important for all parties to maintain open lines and communication to prevent misinterpretations or miscalculations.”
“We are going to make Taiwan the No. 1 center in Asia for capital movement. In the future, we are going to relax rules for international finance institutions to establish offshore banking units [OBU] in Taiwan and make it more convenient to use foreign currencies. With more OBUs in Taiwan, we will be able to strengthen manufacturing development with all that capital. Secondly, we also wish to establish ourselves as a wealth management center. This means loosening rules and providing more diversified financial products and services. We can expand the scale of wealth management businesses, and attract more international institutions and capital to Taiwan.”
“The PLA’s incursion into the sea and air areas near Taiwan has been constant and relentless,. We must stay vigilant at all times and closely monitor [the situations] to ensure national security”
“Taiwan will not sit by and watch democracy, freedom and human rights be degraded in Hong Kong. Taiwan has the responsibility to work with partners of the global democracy alliance to support Hong Kong and its people”
“We will not accept the Beijing authorities' use of 'one country, two systems' to downgrade Taiwan and undermine the cross-strait status quo. Both sides have a duty to find a way to coexist over the long term and prevent the intensification of antagonism and differences.”
“I may not be able to call out all of your names, but I want everyone to know that Taiwan has overcome countless challenges over the past 70 years, relying on not just one or two heroes, but thanks to countless heroes such as yourselves, working together to turn the wheels of history. You have helped make Taiwan a happy, safe, and prosperous place for generations to come.”
“We stand with all freedom-loving people of #HongKong. In their faces, we see the longing for freedom, & are reminded that #Taiwan’s hard-earned democracy must be guarded & renewed by every generation. As long as I’m President, 'one country, two systems' will never be an option.”
“The submarines will not only enhance the navy’s asymmetric fighting ability, but to deploy them in waters to our island’s southwest and northeast can make us more effective in deterring enemy ships from surrounding Taiwan. To produce our own is the only route to take.”
